If there's one thing I've learned from my years participating in the fediverse, it's that developing technological potential is not enough. Realizing the benefits of that potential requires a sustainable economic base. In the case of the fediverse, that means the organization and funds to maintain instances and ongoing software development. But the principle applies to technologies in general.
@strypey Again, we only hear from the lucky people who (finally) managed to grab some of the funding and then went to do "something." There would be far better participation if the funding would be based on what people need, imo.
@gert
Say more about what you mean, what you said can be taken in many ways... thanks
@gert I see, I see.
I think this is like an evolutionary next step.. which I wrote in another post... basically how to use each other as some of us do have the will-power, ability, time but kinda of still missing something... and it's not quite solved with money either (especially when talking between us starts to happen).
But funding possibly - I can't escape knowing banks are bad or unvirtous :) but maybe yes crowdfunding or more volunteers could come about purely because of a friendly interface. Dare I say "a website for just that"
Half the work is finding each other and feeling ok about considering things and getting to manage it better or even give it to people like me to test progress and let others let me know if I've done badly! Just takes one or two people to get together so I'm not saying just me but just those that want more often to test themselves and allow others to give feedback and increment all those things (practise makes habit a more-perfected).
Similar to FLOSS for jobs or free work it's unclear or not centralised (dare I say) or just not advertised on Mastodon (I tried before but I guess people find a way or just use bigtech - but there is a guy on our server who posts his rejection though he's able and he just gets rejections after rejection! I guess he could do something else voluntary all this while... )
