In general and with my sympathies, I think it was inevitable they / the banks / everyone on top went crazy with prices (like "why not?" <--- in their eyes)
Also I think unity comes with having an opponent and we were not so united with comfort so now Capitalism (or greed via prices hikes) with help us realise this will always the be the destination and escalation so we better choose something else more often or create it..
