@itsfoss@mastodon.social Seems interesting! I really wish projects like FunkWhale were more polished so we could create music "instances" to federate with and stream from.

@adiz @itsfoss Don't we have yewtu.be as ad filtering already?

Yes it's filtering not add free originally but really it's not going to last or worth copyright or even duplication UNLESS core people or reason for music is really tight / hardcore / needed / has some value more than principle <----- which I'm usually going for but not something as common or done already as music...
Hope that's not too harsh...

@freeschool@qoto.org I mean moreso self-hosted federated file sharing for a federated streaming service. I have so much music that I don't want on my phone. It'd be nice to stream it from my own server and allow others to enjoy it as well. @itsfoss@mastodon.social

Streaming music in Fediverse? (Streaming is bad?/intensive?)

@adiz @itsfoss Thanks for clarification.
If I still get it right (or clarify please again) then this streaming type of stuff (for music) probably still enters my mental borders of 'excessive usage' of computing even though 128kb/s is much more possible now but still just seems to extended a somewhat a bourgeois extention of what we all have good already locally for music but try test and tip the boat in wanting extra extra comfortability... unless it's really unique stuff on fediverse.

And so we probably will overload things again like on (y)our phone as we do everywhere ( local space and remote ) and prefer we see real cost.

So 'local' being best for playing (or YTb play list or 0 streaming) is much nicer to the computing world also...therefore by extension to the planetary world nicer... If we want to include that almost each time (and management more compulsory with local file space)
(Not deliberately if this sounds harsh for why to stream common music) doing / considering things.

I'd accept streaming for special event or specialised uses but for dumping packets all the time and for streaming standard copyright or commercial content (without real interaction or freedom-loving content) then it's unworthy in my view compared to costs (from processor usage, heat generation, fediverse and all parts that = streaming... which is perhaps not to much for few people but fediverse gets out if hand even if you pay for it yourself... I'd reserve some exceptiona for almost half CD quality or mp3 microphone quality dj talk (64kb/s) and music samples to promote drm-free music clips for example... but more is almost criminal (even if you can or have hardware I still see the costs)

The examples i give might be bad but I'd like to hear more about the content and why not to consider my points. Thanks (will edit post if re-reading it I can adjust something).

I considered if people deleted their local music files, for example, to compensated but still I trust us all to just copy everything online also and never stream / shut down the $ervers regularly etc.

So happy to hear more... For you specifically perhaps to narrow it a bit.
