Ugh, I'd forgotten just how vile Zoom can be.

Horrible, horrible interface.

@freeschool Never used it, and can't use it now because I'm in the middle of being enraged by Zoom.

I've got platform fatigue .. everyone says "Have you tried this? Have you tried that?"

Probably, but not all.

I use things when I absolutely have to, but have found a sort-of home with Gather Town. Other things have marginally better quality, and different facilities, but I find Gather Town hits the sweet spot for me.

But today, and tomorrow, I'm forced into Zoom hell.

@ColinTheMathmo

So maybe now is not the time but for a **1min test MAX** then click this link and accept permission to mic etc!

...and if it doesn't work (literally 1minute) then DITCH IT and consider it as bad! :)

This test can be done anytime you have 1min free to test / try

Desktop browsers are marginally more direct as 1 or 2 or 3 clicks MAX...
(on mobiles it might suggest an app but just click browser and it goes direct through browser to do same as zoom (zoom is from this tech but more basic / fast)!

@freeschool Looking at various write-ups, it's still fundamentally just conference calls. maybe the interface is better, and it has a gazillion features, but it's still basically just a video/audio conference platform.

And "everyone knows zoom".

Follow

Zoom alternative (instant free video chat) ----> Trom (using Jitsi Meet) for Quick Chats / Meetings / Screen-share etc...

Jitsi Meet is a Zoom alternative that anyone can use without paid account for audio / video calls.

call.trom.tf/

The example above runs the same software on website as "TROM Call". You can also setup you own using the same software.

A password and username is set to "tromcall" (it asks for login once you're in call) and makes a unique call every time so different people can use the same service in unique sessions and own links to calls.

Try really free instant Audio / Video / Text Chat etc!

Many good things about this kind of Jitsi Meet software:

●No install, No account. Instant.
Any Browser almost... App is small, thin footprint.
●Open Source

Other things:

- Zoom is maybe routing through China servers and therefore Chinese laws (snooping)
- Faster / simpler / less clutter
- No install / Most browsers
- No account / Instant.
- Similar technology to Zoom in Jitsi Meet but safer/more private/less corporate

Zoom maybe still uses China webspace occasionally which = China Internet Security Laws ...

....Anyway not saying your usual American app is good either but this less-for-profit helps and it's open code etc / not mining your data and calls! :)
