A few error blips from server or message delays perhaps about 1day or 2 now and since then got the feeling / saw notifications are not coming up occasionally.... so thought I'd say in case it's widespread - example to check is if notifications / replies are showing as new)

@kreyren
lol I already got the feeling it's not a compliment to be useful from ignorant people
...kinda you but in many ways not you're just choosing a diff line or be occupied in a different way with what seems the useless people - but it got better also to return the compliment- I value responsiveness highly so there's your compliment back and we're neutral again :]
so while it's good, the hands of a good polisher is what I also want... I'm sure we'll all get there in the end

@kreyren
loooooooooooooooooooooool
people get happiness in such strange ways :)
I'm a diamond in the ruff- just need a polisher.

@kreyren
Usual questions
- is it sarcasm (it's ok if it is!)
- why ¬38 / how do you measure that! (I know you're good in measuring but would be interesting to hear!)

@utf8equalsX I don't mind. Sometimes, it's better to get the full picture in a few words by someone that already has the knowledge rather than spending a while piecing everything together ^^

"I don't give a fuck" is a short phrase that really means many more things... find out what it could mean + contexts....

"I don't give a fuck" is a short phrase that really means many more things (because shortening is often missing out words or assuming read may know or can guess or is mind reader)
So these phrases you can using in your ammunition again any sayer or the the ambiguous short version (as I see it / have filtered):

1 - "I care but what you're talking about isn't my priority or I don't see it yet"
or
"something else for me is further up in the priority ladder, so even if it's #2 or on my list of feelings or priority for what you mention, "I don't give a fuck" really means 'this' in my mind is worth more than 'that' (which you said and what I probably don't understand as it could be 1 and the same thing)

- It's too much to deal with, 1 at a time please

- Don't expect me to answer for all of it. I will secretly think about it later, no need show myself or get too deep now - "I don't really give a fuck"

- "I think there should be less people on the planet anyway" or "It's too much to calculate, especially when people are talking in funny number or fudged skewed maths - "I don't give a fuck" gives in to that and accepts defeat as it's all a mess / deliberate human discrimination / contamination / restriction / taxation etc

- There isn't an easy way for me or I'm uncomfortable / embarrassed to do the long way around = I'm used to this way ("it's only a bit of trash throw it"... or "I've been using windows for so long it's like too much to change and won't be comfortable anyway")

- Yawn I've heard to much -
"Don't give a fuck"

- I have other politics - quite strong or don't know where to start or starting perhaps isn't wanted as it will puke the angry / disappointed other stuff so this cuts it off and states it somewhat as general feeling... and perhaps implies to move on / don't want to spend time
"Don't give a fuck"

- I'm sure I'm going for this one target or thing...and thinking about more might take me off this line... and who knows if it's important "Don't give a fuck" <--- I am focussing on something

- "Don't give a fuck" I am more powerful than you / competitive winning

- more in conversation welcome...

Goodhart's law is an adage often stated as:

" When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure "
or
" Any observed statistical regularity will tend to collapse once pressure is placed upon it for control purposes. "

Named after British economist Charles Goodhart, credited with expressing the core idea of the adage in a 1975 article on monetary policy in the United Kingdom:

It was used to criticize the British Thatcher government for trying to conduct monetary policy on the basis of targets for broad and narrow money.

Anthropologist Marilyn Strathern DBE expressed Goodhart's Law as "When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good measure,"

@l1am0@chaos.social
This is perfect and will on on my post:

Numbers Discriminate People
freeschool.0id.org/numbers-dis

and also a case I'm building so happy about this and showing crazy numbers and code and tech and math people (lovely for the most part) that like everything there is a flaw from back then and now - humans and that their field doesn't escape being political so all their innocent work is driven like any other war / soft-war on it's people - BEWARE!
Also I'm not hating on anyone or any group - just admitting neutrally how it's been developed or taken over (from start or now) is the main thing, and still the people and their own logic remains largely what needs most improving....

@l1am0@chaos.social
Mmm most often working *with* people involves the other persons thinking or depending on who it's for and where, then it can be for others or for many reasons a double-check and what do you think (mixture of the mental thought "I'll do it anyway but yeah if there is something obvious then this saves me overlooking it" and also "we're doing this together so can be good to ask ahead of time for others things)

@l1am0@chaos.social
Hey my site doesn't look far from that! Probably my humour too :D
Guess some things stay quite the same...

@l1am0@chaos.social Terrible advice... that's if being friends is a long-term thing.. and resolving things takes time... so yes don't have full contact but do work on keeping friendship as what goes around comes around (same town, same feelings, same earth).
Sorry a bit shocked at this advice unless you have done some prerequisites - for example I tell people I work with even before friendship to give me a month to continued contact (or not just 0) because if you have lived you know things need time and soft attempts at healing... and leaving scars or having stupid flash moment or simple isn't misunderstandings isn't the way (the aim is being ok / agreeing to disagree after explaining feelings).
World has enough cutting off and inexperience of actually talking.

I suffer most fools gladly...

(mostly because everyone is a fool !)

LOL

Most people can shine like diamond too ( I collect them and shaer them with others :> )

Anything human-orientated is going to need skill and time by the hierachy or organisation, and often on-going 'development' or relationship between people- one that modernism perhaps is trying to avoid than join together united.

The defaults of business often leans towards 'efficiency' which don't help always, often designing out these kinds of glue or interaction and only dealing with commands than decisions together or advices from 'lower' ranks. And keeping more people happy (or even no fighting) is more about working with happiness than efficiency - so shitty hardware that is plug in and play is often attempted not realising the whole evolution of communication and perfecting that (and being happy) is unavoidable! And it's what everyone has to do everywhere in the end. Replacing it with machines is often a future failure or bad short-cut for humans overall or for populations doing more machine-based interaction or time coding, more than anything else the whole day (time holes) thereby losing humanity or losing practice in humanity as time goes on.
Oh yeah we actually believe the adverts too like 'buy this computer and you'll do all this with it, which at the beginning wasn't really true, and maybe still things are hindered / problematic. We fall in love with the idea or new toy instead of getting to like people and getting as many people to help out as possible.

That's the short answer about;
- managing people
- needing more comms
- people needing maintenance themselves
- more cheap / expensive toys
- etc... but hope you got the basic idea. *wink*

This is actually a similar story I have, not exactly my own and there is a kind of unneeded moment to say much more- and even we both knew at times of saying a bit more before, that it's momentary or unique, or people stick to being them and you just enjoy what you can together without too many advices... even when I was staying with him it's that kind of don't ask or accepting you can never know somebody or change them unless they ask, you kinda just live in the now... play games, play pool, drink a few beers, have pizza, whatever works or happens to be timely, watch UFC and then even have that on the regular... even let them occasionally complain and then jump back into gaming (or the other way around).

A kind of closeness like when mammals huddle, just while play games- it's strange to say but easy being together and knowing the standard setup / accepted modes... it's just enough for someone to be there- maybe both loners too. And then one day goodbye. While the spirit of things remain too and in my case even try to be reproduced in FreeSchool or just being nice... another way with others was shown to be possible and though I still think about contact... it's kinda like not the same... or I did mention things and like it was different...

@jasper @kat

Podcasts are ok but I do it when it feels super right or the other person is super responsive (so not everyone ^_^), But always one or two people more in the future... examples here
freeschool.0id.org/?s=audio

Maybe say more what you mean about 2nd paragraph - yes I was taking that clip purely for that clip nothing more (as overall evidences that gov doesn't care and lady summarised it well enough - so I'm not claiming to fit all context and accept context could be totally inside another bubble or onion skin (^_^)

But also I would like to hear what you think and even provide however much of the info or background on this which might very obvious for those a bit deeper in this... (this is one way I learn if not pick and choose many things within FreeSchool)

BELOW IS YOUR MESSAGES
IN 1 BIG MSG
---------------------------

@freeschool I agree gaming community is pretty atomized, people do largely come in just to play. There are discussions/talk in servers sometimes, despite it being pretty poorly suited for it. (About varying things, there are a few extreme right assholes.) I've played it for a long time.

There were tournaments, and i think some people arrange 1v1s sometimes? Possibly a missed chance that no tournament during covid.(1/N)

------------------------
@freeschool I haven't done tournaments, the range of skill levels varies a lot. I totally winning sometimes, partly because of health pickups and getting in control when you win... Still i am pretty weak against even better players.

Competitive feeling or feeling frustrated getting trounced are definitely something to deal with.. The game is largely dodging and hitting each other. (2/N)

------------------------

@freeschool I think Xonotic has better movement system than Quake.

The feeling of flow is in evading damage and dealing it, it'd be less if there was no opportunity for give and take there? For me negative emotions are mostly really pre-existing, i'll just vent some frustration a bit when it happens.. There are running servers where you have to beat a time, but i didn't find the appeal.(3/N)

------------------------

@freeschool About competition.. Really maybe shouldn't want to be the best as much.. Playing the game as best as we can is sort of a cultural expression, but attaching self-image/feelings to it is a bad side of that.

Possibly that RTS (like springrts.com/ ) or simulations like minetest can provide bigger more structured cultural expressions, without competition for the latter. And they do lots of things the real world can't. Think probably there is a place for them.(4/N)

------------------------

@freeschool
But yeah, it is sitting behind a screen, and not the place we give it right now. At least for people not into books(like me tbh) the more easily enticing forms of entertainment can be too easily distracting.(5/N)

------------------------

@freeschool There is also an issue for me; real world, mastodon and games are really disjoint. Which reduces how much they can act as community.(6/N)

------------------------

@freeschool Ideally should have these more aligned. WhatsApp groups are possibly a good example, they're often in a family or neighbourhood more? Perhaps something like XMPP should be used for that, and people could launch games from that so it's closer aligned to other social relations..

And also perhaps fewer "slogfest" like games like DM or in SpringRTS there was a 8v8 all the time.(versus 1v1 to 3v3 which makes more sense) (7/7)

------------------------

@freeschool
PS: The name change to Xonotic was basically forced by someone running with trademark? I think Xonotic is the "original branch", not the fork. That said, it seems long ago and unimportant.

Stories of good people...

A long time ago when i was 19 years old, i moved to an apartment in Washington state. One roommate had me questioning the choice i just made, while the other was a saving grace. Bruce was one weird guy to say the least, but Brant was pretty much like a brother i never knew i had. Long story short, my money dried up after a few months, i couldn't find steady work and i was riding the bus or walking at times to see the lady i moved there for. Brant helped me out when he wasn't working, he took me to job interviews, we played video games, he introduced me to his friends and gave me a ride when i asked him. I normally gave him some gas money, but he wouldn't always accept it.

He treated me like we've been friends since grade school and then the day i was returning home came. We got in his truck and on the way to the airport he told me he was going to play me some real music. He put this song on and we didn't say a word the whole way and just vibed to this. We then arrived and i got out and walked around the truck and i shook his hand and thanked him for being there for me. I walked away and looked back with a nod and wave and that was the end of the journey and the last time i saw him or spoke to him again. This song will always remind me of that moment and I'll never forget it.

Thanks for reading my story if you cared to, it just made long forgotten memories begin to flow for me.
