Content is corporate.

Don't be corporate.

The only way left to combat the algorithms is being aggressively human.

Pirating - As long as it's not only HOLLYWOOD'S output we keep pirating and we actually produce ourselves or work towards something more than consuming for free the mostly US / Hollywood stuff/crap (which can be too easy to download/pirate and push around).

@jmccyoung @ai6yr It always seemed odd to me, how people say “Well, the lottery prize is up to umpty-gazillion dollars this week, guess I’d better buy a ticket” (as if it’d be financially irresponsible not to).
Why would you want to buy your lottery ticket right when everyone else is buying lottery tickets? Wouldn’t you want to buy your tickets when the prize is low & the selection pool is smaller; and your odds of winning are (infinitesimally) better?

#UK - NHS: Senior doctors in England stage rare walk out

>"This could undoubtedly be the most severe impact we have ever seen in the #NHS as a result of industrial action, with routine care virtually at a standstill for 48 hours," said National Health Service (NHS) medical director Stephen Powis.

I lost my earbuds and I'm reading reviews for the few usb-c ones that exist and they all start with like "people usually only buy wired earbuds if they are forced to nowadays because even though they are cheap, have no latency, don't have the lower bitrate artifacts from Bluetooth audio, and don't need to be charged, they have freaking wires which SUCK"

Transforming data from one format to another is perhaps the least methodologically interesting thing you can do with a computer, but it’s by far the most sociologically impactful.

I'm excited for the next major release of Mastodon (4.2) that's coming soon. Half a year of UX improvements (that of course mastodon.social users are already benefiting from). More details to follow.

@susseratal A colleague of mine has floated the idea that webdev is absurdly complex because webdev companies have a vested interest in making it impossible for people to maintain their own websites.

@tedivm good to know but not surprised... did know if existed

and anyway I think TV is bad for people which wouldn't have good excuse unless you add there is Internet almost everyone has enjoyed as new TV...

LOTS of tricks in tech or indeed business itself are there power/control iterations copyinG much of man-made life... giveth then taketh away or pay more.

Lots of examples... latest is friend asked to take next plane from over-crowding because they didn't pay an extra fee to 'reserve' a seat O_0

@neil Was going to say I wish you many good years ahead in law but the brain became self-conflicted with the alternative meaning to need to have more law cases perhaps never-ending (like life too)... still brain flicks between both mmeanings but glad you both have what to do, we all need that...

It's just a number, but today I'm celebrating that our small law firm has taken on its 2,000th project.

Sandra and I quit our jobs and started our business, decoded.legal, at the start of 2016, so we've been working for ourselves for just over seven years now.

It is just a number, but a happy moment for us all the same.

There is no better time to plant a tree than now!

(Meaning grow yourself internally on a daily basis. Grow mind like watering a plant!)

@katoshi A mechanism built to trap people is morally questionable, even if the smallest tools seems innocent.

The people ratifying things is much more the case, even for the basic tech, so beyond your almost-nonexistent fire and wheel (unless you can make fire or a wheel) everything is under someone else's control or inside that construct. So yes fire but no you can't make it and yes they have thought of almost anything that would let people rise from poverty or suppression.

The example of a gun might be extreme but when a computer fires signal in a supermarket telling system to increase price since there is so much demand and chance to profit behind people's back, humanity starts to go backwards and die from people paying much more arbitrarily- happens all the time and just dont see it.

The force is using tech though might seem basic messaging between components or neutral.

The how and why it's used is very important. Happy to leave it on that note if you like.

Reminds me of boys seeing a car and saying "wow" like it's a magic machine and then tens of years later realising the whole industry of cars is not great and magic goes away. Things do look nice and neutral, at first...
