Contrast with Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. It's also a surreal film about a lonely weirdo coping with loss. It also has plenty of thousand yard stares, awkward conversations, long pauses and irritating background tones. But it contrasts these with moments of levity, familiar chats, rapid-fire exchanges of dialogue and more soothing incidental music.
As a result, it's both entertaining and deeply profound. In a way All of us Strangers tries to be, and for my money, totally fails.

"Paying through the nose..." (Phrase / Saying)...
ℹ️ "Paying through the nose":
█ paying much more than it is really worth to a person (as example. people forced to give a % of all earnings to government)
I think it's a lot like physically (my variation in picture with slightly different meaning);
█ like an animal attached by the nose and lead / heavily taxed for others to live off... by those who are not interested in leading properly and more interested in owning people / treating them like #animals!)

Seems more more fun than the usual 'professional' government type of extension and paying through the nose just live quite unhappy...

Low contrast on monitor for years now... (same on mobiles)
I have my screen on 0 brightness and 10 contrast (that;s 10 from 100!) which I believe is also the screen being too high for 10 still visible but without squint or problem used for years and I even feel the different at 15 or 20 'if I really need to see something' lol...
My media page is still good as a result of saving my eyes

Did you know the W3C published Ethical Principles for how the web should work?
https://www.w3.org/TR/ethical-web-principles/
I find them so inspiring. And they guide what developers should be doing, too.
“The web should empower an equitable, informed and interconnected society. It has been, and should continue to be, designed to enable communication and knowledge-sharing for everyone… we need to consider the ethical implications of our work when we build web technologies, applications, and sites.”
@mjambon Could try sending out Invidious links that clear out Ytb advertising and also clears out any bad code, see below:
AI Assistant unremovable inside software installation...

JetBrains' unremovable AI assistant meets irresistible outcry
Some devs just don't want anything to do with neural-network code serfs
Thomas Claburn, Thu 1 Feb 2024 // 20:24 UTC
JetBrains introduced an AI assistant in December to help programmers write code. Now the biz is trying to figure out how to allow its customers to get rid of it.
"JetBrains AI Assistant is similar to GitHub Copilot, but it’s deeply integrated into JetBrains development environments (IDEs), code editors, and other products," the software development tool maker, based in the Czech Republic, said at the time.
While neural-network-powered services have been widely hyped, they come with baggage – concerns about the security, legal risk, privacy, and ethics of large language models remain largely unresolved.
Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI have opted to offer indemnify customers under certain conditions to reassure those worried about potential legal claims arising from generative AI.
But not every outfit offering AI services can make this bet and in some cases there's a cost. For example, Zoom last August had to clarify that it would not use people's chats and calls for AI training despite a change to its terms of service that allowed that.
Some JetBrains customers feel strongly about AI Assistant and really don't want the plugin to be present in their JetBrains applications at all, whether that's due to corporate policies that are incompatible with AI Assistant or other concerns. But because the plugin code has been "deeply integrated," removal has proven complicated.
More than dozen threads on JetBrains' YouTrack issue board have been posted seeking a way to delete, uninstall, or otherwise excise the AI Assistant plugin since it debuted.
A thread titled "Provide the possibility to remove a plugin completely from the system" makes the case for why one might not wish to have this plugin baked into the company's developer tools, such as the PyCharm, IntelliJ IDEA, and other applications.
oftware developers posting to the support forum raise a number of concerns, calling the plugin "bloatware," a risk to corporate intellectual property, a security issue, an annoyance, and a breach of trust.
"I just want to make it clear that I cannot use this product at the company I work for because security will not allow for a by-default AI implementation to be a part of the product," wrote an individual posting under the name Rusty Deaton.
Another developer posting under the name Marcus Grenängen wrote, "This is unacceptable. It should not bundle something by default that can send off the entire code base to God knows where. It's a real bad move JetBrains and I will not renew any subscriptions after this. It's a breach of trust that can't be undone."
'Dubious'
Yet another developer posting under the name Alan Burlison opined, "The fact that this service is AI based and that you don't know the provenance of the code it provides to you is a huge issue on its own, due to the dubious licensing/IP/legal situation it creates. But the biggest issue is not because it's AI, it's because it is leaking the user's company's IP to who knows where, potentially to direct competitors."
In a statement to The Register, Matt Ellis, developer advocate at JetBrains, tried to address misapprehensions and to reassure to those alarmed by AI Assistant's persistence.
"Although the AI Assistant plugin is bundled, and the plugin itself is enabled, there is no AI functionality enabled by default, and no data is sent off-machine without your consent," said Ellis, echoing similar replies posted to some of the discussion threads. "You have to log in, accept the data policies and either purchase a subscription or start a trial."
Quotes:
- "There is no AI functionality enabled by default, and no data is sent off-machine without your consent"
- "Any data sent to the AI service is not used for training. We also have ML support for ranking and completion, and this is provided by on-device models and no data is sent off device."
Ellis said JetBrains has a lot of customers who are happy with the bundled plugin and so the biz is looking into how its AI helper can be both bundled and fully removable.
- "The problem with removing a bundled plugin is that it can break application signatures and cause problems with updates," explained Ellis.
Asked what portion of JetBrains' customers have objected to AI Assistant, a spokesperson said, "We can't say for sure how well these opinions represent the position of all of our customers. We understand the strength of feeling, and we're listening to feedback from all parts of our community, including the many happy individuals and enterprises that are using the AI Assistant." ®

@mjambon Agreed - many reasons including ourselves that do need things to do and do wind up doing it for free even though born into needing money, so being exploited either way it seems and only hope is the "free" way can help defend freedom or play it's part before more money encroaches and sells out / hollows out / takes the soul out of everything in it's wake...
I was reminded that most people outside the software industry have no idea that today, the world runs on top of free and open-source software. They're convinced that "nothing is free" "because capitalism". It's like some of those immigrants from communist countries who believe that selfishness is a requirement of capitalism...
Note that I'm not particularly advocating for the exploitation of free software authors, only stating facts.
Government and Companies are in it together not so as sepearate / not getting you money as seemingly said?... (in theory close to zero but not really / just covered up as susidiary of itself?)...
@anubis2814 @AlexanderKingsbury Not sure what you said there, also if it's rhetorical? Otherwise please try rearrange that message. Thanks
Government and Companies are in it together not so as sepearate / not getting you money as seemingly said?... (in theory close to zero but not really / just covered up as susidiary of itself?)...
I object to those corporate subsidies. And I am not compelled by "such and such saves everyone money". That is a look only at one cost; it ignores all other costs and all benefits.
@AlexanderKingsbury Yeah makes sense to have specific tool for specific food, high-fat things like you said are a bit different. Muscle power yes needed to turn (or keen children willing to 'pedal' for food)... i:)
Is it heavy or laborious / annoying to turn - guess it's big diameter and wheel shape helps and it's not like you're doing it 24/7 or even everyday processing meat like a shop (probably was in a shop once upon a time)... although I am visualising seeing a bicycle in tandem with this for extreme usage :) It does have a nice wheel and handle to it. A great practical purchase.
Government and Companies are in it together not so as sepearate / not getting you money as seemingly said?... (in theory close to zero but not really / just covered up as susidiary of itself?)...
@AlexanderKingsbury @anubis2814 Not to dig this up, just looking through posts... so a small point that governments do give away public money (your taxes) in incredible amounts, often (they don't ask you for that or make it even that public).
For Tech, for pretty much any industry self-serving extension, to "progress" or pump things up as "incentive to progress"... Amazon-type "industry-leading" companies do get your money in fairly direct ways to do that or be lead / fed into doing what Government wants (even by making things cheaper). Kinda sponsored to do this and that bidding, giving 'grants', 'tax breaks' etc... so while I'll not have one bit of evidence to hand over apart from the dictionary term 'subsidiary', 'subsidy', 'grants' and bank-like 'bale-outs'... etc I think it's regularly more of the same than not it is important to see government is a head company (if you grant me that) and actually everyone under is what it tries to help kick-start with our money(!) *as long as* they help government get more back in terms of taxable income for itself in long run (profiting from us)... and Gov keep almost whatever they wants as profit, barely keeping the rest of people alive.
So without inflaming here, I do see practically and 'from what scandals I've heard that 10 must have been right from 500' or like 1 from 5 like Post Office / #postoffice scandal (being latest and apologised for) that indeed Amazon etc is getting your money (our money) and so zero can't be true (and forgiven for being close to that... or feel-good factor like using something else from a main pipe, Firefox instead of Chrome etc... because it doesn't serve me to put another bullet in a dead body lol but yeah under 1 and the same, so circulation of it all directly and indirectly, through cunning ways or re-labelling, shadowing things, otherwise, is basically us paying for it all- half we don't know about probably other than they are definitely scheming a lot!
Agree it does work somewhat to vote with money even in increasingly monopolised sources... All cinema from 4-6 companies, all supermarkets from x number of sources etc
and perhaps "they get less" from you rather than "zero"... forgive me but I know it's not the fault of people they us / abuse things increasingly well and without asking once paid pretty much blindly! (I was thinking of asking for a receipt for where all my money has gone as it's way to generalised and able to be covered up... like how much % exactly today it went to military or which companies)... food for thought in itself to try track or get ownership of what we are or are not paying for. Thanks for reading.
@AlexanderKingsbury Wow this is quite a wonderful thing. And shows how basic things can last (obviously a chunk of metal but probably beats everything else and like you said can open it and re-work it etc)... Careful on the coffee this will encourage pumping out (hehe)
Re-use indeed. Probably could use it with other things without damage? What do you think?
Artificial Intelligence... magnifying what already is an uncaring world / artifical 'system' of doing things ...for it's owners (not just end users)...
@AlexanderKingsbury Agree - but also because they don't have much choice now sometimes... which is the main loss in culture or quality.
The end cost is 'affordable' only artificially in the end user sense... not the whole resource-aggression chain needed to get it there that seems normalised.
Right from capturing the energy, metals, water or whatever - encouraging getting more of that to people just to sit there and consume is already for me proven by existing stuff. (Towns complaining they don't have enough water next to Google plants for example as their Town owners sold them out for data centre money).
And then not really being healthy practice to "leave it to someone else" or 'buy it cheap' or even 'do it quick'. We have seen how wars created by these things sold basically to us as participation.. drones I'm sure are nice but fun what will be around us a lot more and then not so fun. (and not even trying to drag #war in here but seems uncaring world is more about those things as a pattern and reflection of how people think or don't think about at all).
Money more than sense in the end doesn't make sense in the end... and I wouldn't mind if it wasn't getting towards blind usage or doing things faster at diminishing levels of happiness.
People repeating "because I have no time" (or will to study) but will use things blind...
Other things (proven for me) is using cameras without adjusting recognition settings / not caring about aggressive app requirements / BigTech stuff (again without extremism that it's all horrible) and generally average person opening self up with their data up to mainly proven US aggression in well, EVERYTHING :)
But fair point for the average person who doesn't care CHEEEAP! CHEEEAP!
and basically as everything even physical products - they kinda aren't even real any more or diluted down eventually meaning the digital form like the data won't be too real / clear or clean either (it will be like the news and like nothing is happening over in X country or some algorithm setting chosen like YouTube - kinda one CEO person can change a lot which is what power AI gives them more than us).
Not a rant, just too many things, yes 'made' affordable BUT decision makers could make anything affordable when using all our data or money or taxes but their don't have will to solve things, they *choose* for the fakery / manipulation / centralising power).
That's ultimately what is magnified here.
@oblomov Let's keep it that way (not to over-upgrade) as the human work is mostly what's needed now (text, pics, audio we have and links elsewhere)... Just need more humans :L)

Artificial Intelligence... is it me or doesn't 'Artificial' in it's name give away what it is?
Like:
artificial flavouring
artificial additives
artificial people
artificial flowers
artificial insemination
artificial info (from computer
and who knows who behind it)
artificial screen
artificial as in aesthetics of maybe info we could get some other way more direct
At least partly in each sense of these words
where "artificial" is not usually wanted and often faked
on top as another layer, manipulated by other people / BigBiz + Governments mostly

Question please! Did you consider uploading audio here on Fediverse as a way?...
@wfryer Hi, did you consider uploading audio here on Fediverse?
Let's say you had your own server even with no limits - would you do it? Or just for personal reasons prefer Google YouTube?)
A bit loaded but it's ok to say "I prefer Google and promote Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music, PocketCasts, etc.)
So quite a simple one - if in theory you had server etc even someone set it up for you- would you care enough to try Fediverse first or also?
It's about changing / opening our minds...
I give people time and I thnk that's the difference to others online who really don't have or give time and give up on people really easy... (don't mean to be competitive, no put-downs, just I more dedicate time to others and weave us together).
So you don't even have to read any of this because EVERYTHING needs time + communication and without that a lot is broken and even less human even if it's for good...
Just follow and put notifications on to TEST MY FEED.... the rest below is just over-info for most poeple.

To learn and do everything practically! (this is a practical living (and gets stuff done as much as we can).
Fan of Fediverse!
Quick Look - peace-loving work / services:
█ Mini-Podcast (few mins each, examples below)
█ Picture remixes / video remixes
█ Lessons without being too 'teacher' about it. Teacher has teeth for eliminating doubt.
█ Food for thought as gentle soul also.
█ Unique ideas - often impossible for professionals (they are burdened by financial repsonsibility and therefore associational risk in saying things). I'm more diverse and occasionally direct (with respect, though I don't shy away from reminding people).
█ Not too embarrassing to say "I don't know" but can still chase things.
█ More responsive than casual users usually because people think having 'job' is enough in life. I say it's not! And even faimily is of no use if it's only getting worse (in everything!).

I help people create audio / edit educational audio / podcast / music / visual short videos / transcript text
+ I like to add a bit humour while being quite strict in my own politics (opinions) but open / inviting for others to tell me what I should do if they can explain more than just a short comment (I don't mind it's healthy for me at least if you have logic and can stand yourself explaining).
FreeSchool is about Learning towards Freedom (which is about Uniting everyone slowly, even "1 by 1"... Easy with The Fediverse!
Not virtue signalling here only, but practise of EVERYTHING as we go. Judged by getting in contact (many have) and having courage to communicate (or seeking it from others is ok, EVERYONE needs a bit of courage or hand-holding to make big personal changes). Who else is there for example if family doesn't understand?
Learning and watching can be good and staying out of people's way, BUT better is doing something every day and helping each other with some tough decisions / lessons... and then being bold enough to do them. 1... 2... 3 that is all that's needed.
Let my posts do most of the talking.
Put me on notification (click bell that appears after follow ia accepted) and if it's not interesting switch off after and tick me off the list of potential people to follow daily!

I'm usually impressed with my media gallery as I work on posts a lot usually or hit the "Aha!" moments and capture it (other people may forget it for years, not me!).
Freedom is about *making it work together* better like using #Mastodon on the #Fediverse daily for better platforms with more #bestpractices and 'best' people to help us which I kind of collect here and
when it's #1 comment!
I am measurably better because I reply and stick to everything to the end(!)
No cancelling friendship suddenly without saying why or being moody!
Freedom is to Learn, Respect and Love eventually and ️to Unite!
Practically it's also like Tetris - add yourself to the puzzle and watch it all happen...
█▬▄▀ ╚ ╦ ╝╠╧
talk more on Mastodon and the Fediverse and puzzle it all out using better ways to less use the other bad commercial / extractive people...
L£$$ of the less caring people like the ggl's / ytb / gmail / mainstream communication points etc who are offering lots of space 'free' and it's not free of peace there.
We GIVE to real people (TIME NOT JUST MONEY).
There's no buy-in solution - we have to make it with selotape or whatever we have - it's not shameful to bring whatever you have.
FreeSchool is terminology put together from many good things from past (coined in 1950's/60's. I / we become it eventually through being.
It's a movement for Freedom via Learning it all (learning self included and less active stuff) and doing the learning *together* --> https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Freeschool.
I encourage you warmly to participate with me as a I have time and then spiral out naturally to others (we are part of humanity and so naturally a sort of evangelism or ecological pyramid of life as we choose to spread lesser suffering while accepting consuming is part of it).
Less-commercial in orientation (in everything) and happy to think / work for free.
Naturally you will hesitate if someone is sure of themself or ok standing on shoulders what we copy do the best from humbly but not too sterile either.
Based on just emotions ruins almost everything, which seems very common - very ungraceful - so don't disconnect... do it gracefully at least!
A "school" of thought is here you can interact / ask and make best together as free/low cost as possible.
Even a bad answer you can take best from (of course I won't know all your situation when I suggest something but I don't need to answer 100% - you also need to help me!).
Leave perfectionism, we are all imperfect humans! Let's do it... Choose something ANYTHING and keep the thoughts rolling together...!
