Seems a good fork exists:

github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi/

and general chat about it

askubuntu.com/questions/654990

(especially liked the 'it's not supported' being repeated but people saying it works fine (yes pinch of salt there also but a lot seems like there is a difference between 'we don't support / encourage it' and "it's more possible than not, do a backup first".)

@mmcm @256
Must be something around :¬)

One of the reasons I haven't done something about older machines is because they need a CD or USB to install which takes ages or material to install on older systems... but from inside is genius... Maybe I missed something here about that... seems genius...

@hakologist Not sure what you mean as what I wrote didn't seem to mean anything near that which was coming from what you wrote originally. Perhaps read again those top 2 posts.

@mmcm @256 - Where can I get this (I'm considering trying it)

- Deprecated in what sense? (probably according to makers but maybe you meant there is better?)

When we all realise things are deliberately kept broken, and people are acting passive-aggressively... closing in on your space and at the same time asking for even more money...
then you can finally really accept "no I don't want to pay" and be yourself and start from there more often...

To some level let them handle / pay for it / waste their time in front of them to see you're not the criminal born into a world or system that doesn't ask or care what you think...

@Mehrad @matrix ☯️ Pro's and Con's (without knocking anything out or saying anything final)

➖ I think the minimum does knock out the act of donating even a tiny amount as GESTURE - but still 5 seems low... there will be less 'hits' as minimum is increased... 1 being lowest denominator - e.g. 5 x $1 donations rather than $5 to one place

➕ People should be donating more and well I don't approve this way but does set a bar which is measurably almost the lowest so I'd say overall this is ok.
It might make less go around but guess the option is nicer.

I'd be happy to hear if you do small donations anyway and if the conversion (perhaps from your currency) is the main thing... which maybe is the next point

➕ less currency charges for people? (I assume $1 amounts would cost more to convert... or maybe it doesn't work this way)

1D space is a real blessing. You can arbitrarily split and join things. In 2D and 3D sometimes the operations themselves are not even possible when the objects don't have the same shape...

Are you an #Activist?

Thank you. 🙏
Your work is important and needed!

Also be aware of the pitfalls of #activism so it doesn't backfire or be largely ineffective. For instance don't put yourself on a pedestal as a bringer of #SocialChange, privileged and overly judgmental of "those not activist enough" in your eyes.

Make your activism be strategic to have most impact.

Okay, listen up:

Mozilla is two different entities. The Mozilla Corporation and the Mozilla Foundation. The second one? That's the social good one you
really want focused on important things.

The Mozilla Foundation, like all non-profits, publishes their Form 990 annually to disclose compensation.
Here it is.

You'll see that the top earner there, Mitchell Baker, who is very handsomely rewarded, is actually paid by the Mozilla Corporation, not the Foundation. Put another way, the non-profit is not blowing its funding on a CEO.

And the corp, by the way, is what generates revenue that largely funds Firefox.

The
annual report of the Foundation shows a pretty healthy financial situation, and increased investment in public good projects year-over-year.

I don't like everything they do either (e.g. that risible website generator), but I don't actually think they are suffering from a lack of focus. They're suffering from a mature market.

From the inside of my cabin in the Yukon wilderness, I wish you all a joyous Happy New Year. May you find peace, joy, and light in your heart, and share them with the world 🕯️🧡

@vantablack

@jerry I get a lot of optimism when I hear of young people talking more intelligently or of history and so far mostly from the few posts I've seen of your and about what they are singing around the houses this causes me to think that you have clever kids and it's even worthy to actually to have kids today!

The US can afford what it wants to afford. Period. Billions toward war? No problem, reparations for Black folks, "...ooooh we can't afford that."

@kshernandez Something in common is wondering how often I think about that and if I did would it be a lot and as a measurable number... food for thought

@neil "Let us dream together!" I say!

I think that is the universe and space here that can help it all come together better.

You know what would be nice?

An "open firmware" project, where people produce and share FOSS firmware for common household devices, replacing the manufacturer's firmware with a decrapified version.

A smart TV? Reflash it with FOSS firmware, which removes tracking, calls to the manufacturer's servers, and any Internet-connected services that you don't want?

A printer? It's now yours. No ink subscription, or need for an app to print remotely.

And so on.

A man can dream, eh.
