Celebrating the #ILoveFreeSoftware Day today!❤️

A day to appreciate all the developers and contributors who create, improve, test, translate, document, advocate,... Free Software. Thank you all! #ILoveFS

#5 Nurture human nature. What should success look like? A narrow focus on individuals, high-impact papers, grants & awards drives unhealthy competition & devalues the work of building & sustaining communities, mentoring, education, service & outreach. Let's reward #teamscience

#6 Design to distribute. Competitive funding schemes with low success rates are demoralising, waste time, and compound the Matthew Effect. Prioritisation of for-profit publishing and IP generation enclose public goods - the fruits of taxpayer-funded academic labour - for private profit. Calls for fairer funding & #OpenScience show that there is appetite for change.

Love is giving more than financially asking... Love is not what governments do...

Love is giving more than financially asking.

Love is not what governments do...

Asking is still part of love (letting people give)

Learning to ask and give (with less money in the middle) is for me true love.

Love is giving more than financially involving things (less involving banks who are cheating everyone)

Love is not what governments do.

Consumerism is another form of war applied to it...

Consumerism is another form of war applied to it

Different form of war and program of the government(s)... but essentially didn't change much since WWII MENTALITY of manipulation and economic war going back before that.

Just Governments added some aesthetics and branches of study from those bad roots, making the folio on top look like less fascistic / less financialk with better looking uniforms ( clothes ) but same dealings overall.

Still to conquer of the earth and it's people both domestic and foreign as part of 'business' is daily life.

A video... slightly tangential...

Question- Wonder why in old texts hand written or typed they put the first word in CAPITAL LETTERS or make the first letter or the word much bigger in font size at beginning of paragraph...

As seen here for the word "WHEN" that starts the paragraph:

Killing people doesn't always kill the idea...

Killing people doesn't always kill the idea...

"You can kill the man but you can't kill the idea"

This works in a good and bad way that things can change or stay the same also... so for example it's

●Bad if Capitalism continues with people perpetuating it's ways by following 250% (or all in)

●Good if people are aware and doing something about it (including educating their kids) and increasing % of other ideas before they die.

If people follow Capitalism without changing things then the good ideas slowly or quickly die... so it's not ideal but people have to put their lives on the line either way else they or children live in hell / totalitarianism etc

You’ve likely heard about the cost of living crisis. But wait a sec ... What's this so-called ‘cost’ of living? Are you telling me that there is a price tag to *being alive*?

And what if you can’t afford that price tag? That cost of being alive? Then … you die?? 😱

We discuss the morbid, twisted logic of cost of living in our latest episode: vulnerablebydesign.net/chatgpt

Destruction 700 trees along the East River + 100 year old London Plane tree - New York City...

Reckless destruction of 700 trees along the East River is a nightmare of

● Misguided planning
● fascist design
● textbook municipal over-reach...

...who kills old trees in the name of “Climate Resilience” ?
New York City, that’s who.

Friends. We are protecting trees in the East River Park.

Some of us went into the construction site on Thursday and stopped (for a while) the destruction of a 100 year old London Plane tree named Mathilde.

Event was: Sunday Jan 15 at 3pm, 36 Ave C at East 3rd with Songs from: Change Without Us'
Come next time!

Also... Billy has written the foreword to a book of poems by Colin Greer.

It was a pleasure to visit Coopers Lane Primary School to talk about the Tube Mapper photography books & to check out the London Underground train that they have in their playground.

The 1975 D-Stock carriage was donated by TfL & installed by MaceGroup in 2016.

Systems don't care - can't care... Scaling is very dangerous in the end...

Systems don't care much...
................can't care much...

Scaling is dangerous... and almost nonexistent / neg benefit in the end...

Scaling makes things worse if not tak8ng care of smaller things and including human feelings with it in the equation...

MORE ON THAT.....

So any grand design or scaling without individualism embedded simply can't care and has but a limited subset of individual caring (which would be consent, customisation, more conversation etc for individuals, also together)...

...change needed (it seems) to the extent that any system would be more indivisualistic than a system... sort of proving my point that a system is by nature bad for individual needs and inherently non-human to detriment of all

Systems of focus may seem good at beginning (like we lived 10 years ago or even now) but still the bad or even worse is thete in the end more than actually anyone person or entity wanting to work out individuality individually and being a lot more accepting as a start!

Hard one... but I go for individual happiness and care as root to everything else happening "slowly but surely" and with less imoersonal big jumps... but it does need investment (like all things) and probably morals and acceptance needed with it which often perhaps people don't want!

No amount of official intervention will trump it's own authority...

No amount of official intervention will trump it's own authority.

(Most of the time it will rebrand it, give it's own excuses and resell it under a different name or different business model but essentially using similar mentality.) @gretathunberg

Think Globally. Act Individually.

Think Globally. Act Individually.

(Maybe 'Locally' but people ain't ready / need to choose themself to align as it's too much energy and conflict for little gain in my long experience)

MORE IS JUST BLAH BELOW...

So not waiting for "United" Nations, scientists or anyone elseare to go against the capitalist grain from which they exist from. YOU literally have to start from the beginning or do your own habit change or ' local action ' to get earn your own justice by how you do things.

No amount of official intervention will trump it's own authority.

Most of the time it will rebrand it, give it's own excuses and resell it under a different name.

Acting Individually means
□ use wash-rags instead of toilet paper
□ use a bucket for water catching (not letting water go down the sink / plug hole. □ Using bathwater by putting water in a buckets for cleanIng dishes and then rinsing with clean water.

All the small things decreases the consumption of water, bill$, demand, transport, pumps etc...
