heute musste ich mal wieder den Kopf schütteln vor lauter ignoranz - in einem NSG geht ein Mann schwimmen und scheucht schon wie an einem der Vortage viele Vögel auf. Ich frage ihn freundlich, ob er nicht eine etwas andere Runde schwimmen will, weil er massive Störungen verursacht. "ich schwimm jetzt da trotzdem, ist mir doch egal" - manchmal bin ich echt sprachlos

Please, I'm begging you, if you're a researcher, archive your data, back up your files, have a data succession plan.
Chat to your library, chat to your colleagues. The best time is as you collect the data, the second best time is now.
I'm dealing with multiple different data nightmares now. People leave academia, people retire, people pass away with a plan to make a plan.
No judgement here, just sadness for all that hard work thrown into uncertainty.

German Bird Race 2023 finished now: 51 % of all participants use their car for chasing. On the positive side: 49% are participating by foot, car and public transport (as in most other countries) - I am curious to see when #lowcarbonbirding finally gets also into Germany. (personal result of the family team: 109 species and 65km by bike )
