@sigrid ich hab mich über 5 Liter Regen nach 4 Wochen Dürre gefreut und das war wirklich wohltuend für den Garten. Dabei hatte ich am WE schon in grüner Blüte in den Bergen "gebadet"

German Bird Race 2023 finished now: 51 % of all participants use their car for chasing. On the positive side: 49% are participating by foot, car and public transport (as in most other countries) - I am curious to see when #lowcarbonbirding finally gets also into Germany. (personal result of the family team: 109 species and 65km by bike )

der Jura nördlich der Donau ist natürlich durchlässiger, wobei ich mich jetzt mal auf BW beziehen möchte - da kann man eine gute Verbindung zu den Niederschlagssummen herstellen - im Lee des Schwarzwalds ist es trockener und der meiste Jahresniederschlag fiel üblicherweise im sommer, durch die Gewitter bedingt, und da spielt die Orographie eine entscheidende Rolle...... auffällig ist in unserer Gegend dass im Grunde alle Obstbäume in Hanglagen Trockenstress haben, ich wage die These dass wir in 20 Jahren nur noch Birnen an nordöstlich flacheren Lagen haben werden
@textbook @christianschwaegerl das sind Jahresniederschläge unter 600l - und langanhaltende Dürrephasen in den letzten Jahren. Ich sitze genau in dem tiefroten Bereich am westlichen Bodensee - dort war noch vor kurzem auch der Oberboden tiefrot - aber es müsste schon lange und viel regnen....damit die Bäume mal tanken können

@trinsec there is no political will to do so - there had been barriers some ten years ago to block off the road for some weeks in spring - these had to be removed to that cars can still speed on (and it would be maybe only 1 km extra tour for short time for them) - but free car driving is highest priority in germany
watch out for #amphibians , too many deaths on roads already again! migration is happening now (and most cars ignore them - this is so sad)

spring is coming - but it is dry!
while out for a walk I made a picture of the dry conditions in the landscape and checked the national database. Looks like we set a national negative record for the top soil humidity for the driest region in Germany currently - not good! . (data ufz - duerremonitor).
after doing a bit of gardening lately I noticed dry soil up to 1 min depth- so I checked the national maps - again/still on the very much extreme in our area - not too promising news for spring https://www.ufz.de/index.php?de=37937
