I’m up for keeping Mastadon social #today… so I thought I would share the big project I worked on this year. I didn’t think it was going to be a big project but I was so so wrong. I #crossstitch and made this quilt for my granddaughter- pictured is the whole thing and two closer pics and my son and gf showing it to the baby on Christmas Day.
I ate a sandwich #today for lunch at @workantile , my coworking space. (falafel from the sub shop around the corner, if you need to know that!)
Today’s bog word of the day is paludification. From (Latin) palūs meaning marsh or swamp + ficātus to make. Most global peatland area is due to paludification where wetland plants & peat spread into adjacent uplands. Image shows paludifying Sphagnum moss on upland mineral soils. #mosstodon #lichen
@KevinCarson1 @endrift This meandering walk down memory lane plus a recipe could have been a recipe
Over 12% of US childhood #asthma can be attributed to gas stove use, a breaking new study from RMI Carbon-Free Buildings, University of Sydney, and Einstein School Of Medicine show. This is similar to children’s asthma risk of being exposed to secondhand smoke. It is clear we must move away from fossil fuel appliances and go all-electric, not only for the climate but for our health. Read the study here: https://bit.ly/3jLuNmL
"Hurricane Fiona scared the bejeebers out of the people in our area," Amherst Mayor David Kogon said. If a storm like Fiona struck at a slightly different angle at high tide, Amherst and vital trade routes in the area certainly could see flooding.
"...about $35 billion in trade moves via the rail line + Trans-Canada Highway ... between #NewBrunswick + #novascotia Kogon said the cost of not acting quickly is far greater than the project price tag." #ClimateCrisis

#Today I worked on critical reflection prompts for my #conservationbiology class in PebblePad and spent way, way too long googling photos of #blackfootedFerrets. Dang are they ever cute. Sad they’re so #endangered

Hey all, blame this mundane post on @Mrfunkedude . 😉 #Today
I have ADHD and am using a free plugin to Visual Studio Code called @dendronhq to create a personal knowledge store that will allow me to remember things my brain does not.
I need your help...
Every day I put out a post to encourage people to Toot about their lives. Mundane or interesting.
I do this is to keep the social aspect of Mastodon alive. It's easy to forget, in a world of niche content, all of the things that make us who we are.
When we share our lives, we can see ourselves in others. We can see what makes us different, and yet the same.
That's beautiful.
So PLEASE, if you see any of my boosts with #today in it, BOOST it.
Let's keep Mastodon social.
So why did 1.5°C became the acceptable limit to rising temperatures? That story reveals an essential truth about #ClimateChange itself.
(From @TheConversationUK)
What's interesting is that the Toronto Star article revised the title of the article from:
"75 per cent of COVID ‘long haulers’ free of symptoms in 12 months: McMaster study"
to the current and far more accurate:
"25 per cent of COVID patients become ‘long haulers’ after 12 months: Mac study"
Good for them.
You can read it here: https://www.thestar.com/ths/news/hamilton-region/2023/01/04/mcmaster-long-covid-study.html /2

Fewer breakthroughs in science attributed to over specialization and narrowing in the use of previous knowledge. We need to stop the practice of #extractiveReading and read expansively.
A billionaire emits a million times more greenhouse gases than the average person, according to Oxfam.
We know which ones we need to hold accountable for the climate crisis.
“I’ve started calling these kinds of calls for positive thinking ‘hopewashing.’ Like greenwashing and pinkwashing, hopewashing offers a way for corporations and people with power to make it seem like they’re making the world a better, more hopeful place, while in reality they’re doing the opposite.”

Hi folks! If you're new to Mastodon, you may have seen the hashtag #Alt4You and wondered about it -- well, wonder no more!
Mastodonians who are #blind or have low sight use screen readers to access the #Fediverse. They need descriptions of visual content, and sometimes people forget to provide that description when they post an image. Sighted Mastodonians can help by adding a comment to the original post, providing that description and including the #Alt4You tag.
Come help out!
