The Filters I mentioned are in the Preferences of Mastodon itself -- and I have a good post with detailed instructions, handy for anyone who doesn't like Cat photos.
Makes me feel better, as I am not forcing anyone to see mine -- and provide an easy way out for anyone not interested. it's here :

I have access to BigBlueButton So we could use that here if we wanted video chat.
It is free to sign up to, so approving signups isn't an issue either, Maybe handy if we wanted to do some sort of video presentation or teaching, as you can upload pdf presentations and also have access to a whiteboard.

I completely agree with you Paul.
And Rob is right about recharging the batteries.
Sometimes I feel that I may not know about alternative systems because of my lack of dev skills.
But i've always been curious and it's quite hard to find even though being with you guys gives me some hope as we share the good stuff. there is a definite need for it.
I didn't try BigBlueButton even if I looked into it. Don't know if it uses AWS or other system...

Sometimes I feel like banging my head against a wall. Trying to suggest alternatives to spyware and proprietary systems, people don't get it .

I appreciate these are different ways, but they are all commercial, closed source and zoom just routes via china and is not even offering basic encryption for free users.

The living coasts attraction in Torquay has had to close due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Anyone know of other zoos or perhaps marine research facilities could look in to taking over the site.

There HAS to be some research people out there, who could benefit from having a base in South Devon with Easy Access to Plymouth and Exeter universities, and 4 hours (ish) to London by train.

I share your frustration with this, I would like to find something that will allow me to create a diagram, e.g flowchart, mindmap but then export as a LaTeX source code.
Partly as the process to create in LaTeX is a little involved and gets frustrating.
Maybe it is just easier to use paper and pens, I make notes the old fashioned way with the OU Open Learn course.
If i understand well what you mention as filters are the Post Privacy levels?
Btw on Pinafore (don't know if you have it) there is a feature I don't yet understand its purpose.

I love using mind maps. It is easier to get ideas flowing.
The hard part is sometimes to deal with the amount of data i can have #overload but it is one of the tool that I find really powerful.
A few years back i used Xmind but as time went by I found their app being more and more annoying changing what you could have or not (when paying) with sometimes each upgrades. it also became quite slow as well to use (with crashing) and to download the documents made.
Then I used Freemind and then freeplane.
Good for the values I stand for (open source) but I really can't stand it anymore. It forces me to use the "Buzan Mode" every time even if I chose not to. And it is very ugly!
Of course there are really beautiful softwares out there for the windows mac users. Some are Linux friendly but of course all have gafa tech with re-captchas and not data care friendly really.
So I looked and looked and looked... and there is not much on the horizon 🏜️.
