@comrade_krampus this is exactly why I’m such a huge proponent of continuing to invest in self driving cars. The AI won’t have an ego that causes it to have an accident. Almost everyone (you and I included, the exception being a handful of race drivers - maybe) thinks they are a better driver than they really are.

@gpowerf I agree, in theory. But AI is made by humans and will have to make very important decisions on its own (regarding pedestrians, cyclists, animals on the road etc) I'm not comfortable with that (if AI decides it's ok to run over a person or an animal in the name of my safety).

@comrade_krampus it is an interesting moral question for sure. I lean more towards the consistency of AI, I honestly believe that will save more lives overall than the current state of affairs.

@gpowerf I surely hope so. But I'm afraid the best chance for this to happen would be to make roads for AI-powered vechicles only and nothing else (no humans on foot or bikes allowed, tall fences so no animals, for instance).

This is a problem on its own, morally (not everyone can afford a car or should be forced to own/rent one just to move around) and practically (what about rural roads or poorer countries).
