So the US has half-banned Huawei, they're on their way to banning TikTok, and now they're coming for your DJI drones: https://www.warner.senate.gov/public/_cache/files/c/8/c8dbcd57-7d3c-4842-85f2-466dc2b70f66/B56DAFD9C216FD3E54239A3E14E281EF.final-2023.03.15-letter-to-cisa-re-dji.pdf
TL;DR: DJI has been classified as a "Chinese military company" and there's some vague evidence that consumer drones are being mined by the Chinese for all sorts of nefarious purposes.
@robpomeroy banning DJI is akin to banning Nikon cameras. 😱🙄🤦♂️
@robpomeroy Exactly. It is painful to ban the leading anything. DJI leads the drone market because they are genuinely the best at what they do.
@gpowerf @robpomeroy
Yeah, but they could be the best for the wrong reasons. Like slave camps, for minerals they use in batteries, or factories in which they manufacture these drones, where "human rights" isn't even in the dictionary, and is just another Monday, (if they can even tell what day it is, because sometimes they get locked up in the factory for days).
So this makes the cost of making these things low = they can reinvest in other things to make it even better, or speed up the progress/innovation.
I wouldn't call for a ban, but we don't live in democracy in decisions that really matter, so eh... hopefully open-source drones, will explode in popularity, for the sake of everyone involved.
