Further Adventures with the MISTer FPGA.

I never had a Mac Plus and it was always considered the lesser gaming platform behind the #Amiga and #PC but it still had some classics.

With an hour's noodling I got the Mac Plus fired up on the #MISTerFPGA with a vhd. It was time to play the game I came for...

Prince of Persia will always be a great game and this version looks very nice in hi-res black and white. It's slow, almost like the #apple2, but the Prince is still responsive. Action keys are configured like the Apple II, with a dedicated key for each action (horizontal jump & vertical jump), rather than combining them as in the PC and Amiga versions.

Playing on the Mac Classic is a less immersive experience than on other systems for two primary reasons. Firstly, the MacOS is not booted out on running the game, you select New Game from the window menu with the mouse (and save your game in the same way) and secondly, the copy protection is intact and the somewhat surreal experience of having the Prince search for the potion with the right letter from the manual was a real throwback to the late 80s/early 90s.

The Mac Plus has a unique look but still feels right. I'm a PoP tragic and can appreciate the different styling of each version and its great to play them all...

@zorrobandito That;s really cool, I don't think I had ever seen screenshots of this version of the game.

And your toot made me laugh, I pictured a Mac advert "Get an Apple Mac, the lesser gaming platform since 1986."
