@arstechnica EV, spacious, and 3 rows of seats are all good. But I’m not too keen on the mega long wheelbase. This isn’t a racing car and overhangs wouldn’t hurt it.

A quick heads up for those #StarWars fans who are also #Gamers & #Retrogamers

If you've ever played the X-Wing games, but have never heard of xwaupgrade.com/ what rock have you been hiding under?

For about 20yrs, a group of people have continued to work on, modify and upgrade the classic X-Wing Alliance, this work has spilled over to other games in the franchise such as Tie Fighter & work ongoing for the original X-Wing itself.

If you have the games, get the mod.

@stevoooo I use a Mac for work because the options are either Windows or the distro that shall not be named.

Between GPT-4, the release of Claude, and Google finally showing off new ML capabilities, today feels like an important day in the history of AI development nytimes.com/2023/03/14/technol

Video game preservation is a complex task, hindered by Digital Rights Management, limited accessibility to server code, and publisher disinterest. Without proper preservation efforts, valuable works of art risk being lost over time.

I'd like to see a video game archive equivalent to a film archive in the future. It can't come soon enough :)

@richservo totally! I can do keyboard and mouse, but controller without gyro? Nope. Not playing a shooter without gyro.

Gyro aiming has been shown to be the fastest and most accurate aiming method for controller players, yet many games and even platforms, such as Xbox, lack native gyro implementation. Fortunately, there are ways to work around this issue using both hardware and software solutions.

For example, the BIGBIG Won Armor X Pro is a versatile controller adaptor that allows gamers to map the gyro to sticks, giving them gyro aiming for any game they desire. It works with Xbox, PC, Switch, and PlayStation, and can even be used on Switch, PC, and PlayStation games that support gyro without mapping to stick, behaving exactly like a PS5 or Switch pad.

Another option is Steam Input, a collection of software, hardware, and configuration utilities that Steam uses to interface with games. With Steam Input, gamers can map the gyro to stick or mouse, offering even more options than the Armor X Pro. Steam Input works with PC and gyro-enabled controllers, and is implemented impressively in the Steam Deck.

The XIM Nexus, a controller that comes with built-in gyro, is another solution that allows users to map the gyro to the stick, similar to the Armor X Pro. It can also be used on Switch, PC, and PlayStation games that support gyro without mapping to stick, and behaves like a PS5 or Switch pad.

Finally, DS4/DS5 Windows is an open-source gamepad input mapper and virtual emulator designed to connect PlayStation or Switch controllers (DualShock 3/4 and DualSense 5) to a Windows 10 & 11 PC. Like Steam Input, it enables users to map the gyro to the mouse, providing yet another option for gamers to experience gyro aiming.

Chinese GWM KingKong-based full-size SUV powered by a frugal 2.0L turbo diesel?

Where do I sign up? NOW!

This looks like a Toyota Sequoia-sized SUV with the power and efficiency of a HiLux. What's not to like? Perfect for camping families.

Praying that Europe will get this or the EV version of this sometime... maybe...

@stevoooo I've not updated to Ventura yet. My favourite daily driver OS right now is chromeOS 110.

Accidentally updated macOS to Ventura yesterday which didn't end so well as it breaks #emacs28 due to changes in the SVG support. Moved to #emacs29 and today hit first great new feature - replace-regexp now highlights the match as you type just as re-builder does!

@Squirrel it is a huge problem and generally I'm not one to promote tight regulation for every problem out there. However, something needs to be done about social media addiction and TikTok is the biggest problem.

@gpowerf Beside stealing so many data, Tiktok's addictivity is such a big problem. I deleted Tiktok million times and ended up in app after max a few weeks...

@arstechnica I love that my truck is a stick, however, times move on! Diesel engines like that in my truck have to eventually go and with that goes the stick. Will I miss it? Sure, but I’m also looking forward to clean and quiet trucks. Times move on, things change.
