@vitaminsludge@mastodon.ie @davidwilkins The mahoosive belt for my Chevy is the same length and type as used by a Mercedes Benz (forgot the model), I ended up having to get one at Halfords at one point too...

@davidwilkins I was trying to connect the 6.2 Mercruiser specifically :) I'm not the biggest fan of the little Buick/Rover V8s. They are fine, but yeah... Somehow they've never done that much for me in terms of getting me excited.

@davidwilkins Lets take the long route:

* Tata owns Jaguar as well as Land Rover, so Land Rovers are Jaguars of sorts.

* Land Rover makes the Range Rover and thus the Range Rover is a Jaguar of sorts.

* The old Overfinch Range Rovers used Chevrolet TPI small blocks, therefore these engines are Jaguar engines of sorts.

* The old Mercruiser 350 and 305 inboard engines were based on the same engine block that was used in the Overfinch Range Rovers. Therefore these old Mercruiser engines were Jaguar engines of sorts.

* The engine that replaced the old 350 engine is the 6.2L Mercruiser. Therefore this Mercruiser is a Jaguar engine of sorts.

Done, it is a Jaguar engine ;)

@Raspberry_Pi enjoy :) And will you get time for a quick visit to the New Forest? :D

@davidwilkins then in my imagination, it will have a Mercruiser 6.2 so that the beautiful looks can be complimented by a beautiful burble.

@alfredohno I agree with him. Any drive that's just painful and boring is doomed to fail.

@wiredfire make them sound like Jetson's cars :D boop boop boop boop....

@CommodoreBlog cool stuff :) tools like these made our computers better. Little software that did one thing really really well.

@wiredfire but some people just seem to relish the fact their car sounds like the rolling apocalypse and they rev the living shit out of the poor thing wherever they go. That’s bad form IMHO…. Roll on EVs!

@wiredfire modern cars have quiet modes that in my humble opinion should be what you use in a residential area. I own one loud (an old Camaro with a performance exhaust) car and when driving home close to houses I make sure the thing is barely revving beyond 1500 rpm, I tip toe home basically. At one point when starting it, there were people chatting nearby and I made a point of walking over and telling them I was about to start a loud car, warned them so they would not get startled.

I see that the neighbour’s Lamborghini has broken down. Hopefully this means peace and quiet for a few days.

This is why I gave up on the motoring press almost completely. Who cares if one mid size pickup is 0.8 seconds faster down the quarter mile than another mid-size pickup. I can think of hundred of more important things day to day to care about a mid size truck than how fast it accelerates.

Fuel economy, warranty length, wheel size, all more important!

Heck, even 2 degrees more departure angle is more important!
