@JJFlash people ignore the flaws of stuff they like.
@gpowerf Eh, it's not the first time I read in an article "Mastodon makes it easy to move your posts from one account to another".
It *barely* moves your follows and followers, and *sometimes* your bookmarks.
Source: I moved my Italian account once and my English one twice.
(While I can see the reason why posts don't get moved, it still makes you think three times if moving your account or not)
@lucifargundam @hackernews@die-partei.social truth be told at one point in my life the fanciest car I had ever been in was my granddad’s fully loaded Silverado. It had dual fuel tanks, radio aerial integrated to the front screen, and cruise control. Wow… the technology!
@hackernews@die-partei.social maybe I’m a peculiar customer but last thing I look at in car is the radio, yeah let’s call it the radio. Sure, I had a BMW with an amazing sounding radio and a beautiful big screen. But my current truck doesn’t even have a screen and I don’t care because it has a lot of more meaningful features that I like.
@clutem @film_girl exactly! My parents said no Garbage Pail Kids, I still got the cards! Same will happen to TikTok when the state says no TikTok.
@clutem @film_girl exactly this! TikTok is as big as Star Wars, Harry Potter, Garbage Pail Kids, and Ghostbusters combined to lots and lots of people. Like it or not it is a huge cultural phenomenon. No law is going to stop people using TikTok.
@film_girl even if the federal government bans Tik Tok. That’s not how software works. It will easily be circumvented. We really need to elect better idiots.
This is straight-up insanity. It never will survive appeals, fortunately, but I’m absolutely bothered that individual states think they can ban access to apps/websites. Also, the plan is to fine Apple/Google for offering the app in their state. Good luck with that, you absolute morons. https://www.wsj.com/articles/montana-lawmakers-approve-statewide-ban-on-tiktok-17dc0ea6
The real magic of the #fediverse is collaboration.
Many of the largest projects have worked together behind the scenes on compatibility.
It's not that common now that ActivityPub has matured, but you better believe the early days of 2018 had big players like Mastodon and Pleroma working closely on compat.
#ActivityPub = Community + Collaboration
The magic formula that sets us apart!
@mroach 😦 wow… kinda weird though to dismiss works of art before an arbitrary date.
Phoromatic from @phoronix is fantastic. We use it in our lab for automated performance testing.
@kellyn Personally I LOVE Chromebooks and they are my go to laptop. But they could be simpler in some aspects for the general public in my opinion.
@kellyn I agree I’m a huge Chromebook fan, largely because it is an off the shelf Linux desktop and in very familiar with Debian anyway. So I’m a ChromeOS user who leans on Crostini heavily.
I do think that Chromebooks can be confusing for new users though. The 3 file systems can be confusing, as is having to enable Linux mode and not having a cohesive App Store that brings Android and Linux applications together.
@atomicpoet perhaps he’s too stupid to understand Mastodon? Sorry for the harsh language and judgement, but it’s all I can conclude.
This is my fun social media account, I will post a lot of video game stuff (mostly old or cloud gaming) and some work stuff.
If I post an image with no Alt text it is because the image is just there for decoration and doesn't provide any extra meaning to the toot.
