@the_white_wolf @wiredfire it's understandable. I don't like to lose the power to run what I want, how I want locally either.

But I also recognise that there will be some gaming or metaverse experiences that will only ever be achievable on the cloud.

A world that lets you interact not only with other players but also potentially with 1000s of AI-driven NPCs that pass the Turing test will not be achievable entirely locally.

@the_white_wolf @wiredfire I never said it would be the only way to game, local gaming will not go away in our lifetime. Just look at how many new games get released to itch.io weekly! It's LOTS! Even if big studios largely switch the independent scene will continue to pump out games for lots and lots of different hardware.

I said pervasive, meaning that it will be spread widely.

@the_white_wolf @wiredfire I'd like to add that local and cloud can and will coexist.

Each will be better suited for different experiences.

@itnewsbot SUb $50k for the Pro is a phenomenal deal. If Ford can produce this in large enough numbers it should look at Africa, and South East Asia. They could steal sales from the mid-size trucks popular there.

@the_white_wolf @wiredfire The same arguments that are used against EVs were used against cars in the early 1900s. Back then, cars faced legal and social obstacles, such as the requirement to have a flagman walking in front of them. There was also a strong opposition to the introduction of new technologies, such as the stocking frames or the industrial revolution in general. However, most people eventually adapted to the changes and embraced the benefits of innovation. The few who did not either moved on or stayed behind. They never learned to drive, continued working in outdated ways, never enjoyed a movie, and so on. Resistance does not stop progress.

@wiredfire both can coexist. Horses didn't fully go away when the car came along ;)

It goes without saying that anyone who tells you that it goes without saying will obviously then feel compelled to say it anyway.

Widespread and pervasive cloud gaming is the destination, it is unavoidable, and it is at the end of the track that we are on. The question is how quickly will we get there.

Have you ever heard someone say “if I am honest” before making a statement? I hear it all the time, and it bothers me a lot. Why do people have to specify when they are being honest? Does that mean they are dishonest most of the time? Or are they trying to make themselves look better or avoid hurting someone’s feelings?

@zx81adventures Should see if your ZX81 code will cross compile to Aquarius (I am remembering Z88DK correctly?)

is so refreshing, a brand new game with no significant issues at launch (at least on Xbox), no frame rate drops despite there being a bazillion dinos on screen, and no show-stopping bugs either.

Well done ! I wish and #343 could do this with games!

@hackernews@die-partei.social I sure feel poorer than I've felt in well over a decade :(

This weekend I spent my gaming time with these two games. and

I’m really liking Exoprimal! I suspect the game won’t have lasting power but I’m enjoying it for now. I’m loving how it feels so different from anything else I’ve played recently.

need anything? i'm at a garage sale full of lego minifigures and retro games ~ i'll take all the cases, please
