Annual Reminder!
If your younglings are getting new video #games consoles remember to carefully open them & switch them on to do any software updates before #Christmas Day!

Updates take a while and take longer on Christmas Day as everyone else is trying to do the same.

Buying them a new game? Christmas Eve after they’ve gone to bed pop it in the console for any updates - don’t do it before otherwise they’ll see traces of the game on the console 😉

I'm a software developer working primarily on a real-time data distribution platform in C++, also using TypeScript and plenty of other technologies.

Other interests include music (I play the violin), and home automation.

The group of people who are trying to divide the fediverse seem to have reached a new low.. They have a tool that lists how many instances block a particular instance, but it is highly manipulative.

For starters it is hand curated.. so they exclude blocks against their own instances and only includes instances they actually dislike.

Worse yet they curate a list ordered by "most blocked".. problem is they use the number of instances that block. They game the system by having large number of single-user instances. So instances in the top 50 may only be blocked by a few hundred people but still appear as if the blocks are significant....

This is why we need transparency, its why we need the https://UFoI.org

@cliffwade I haven't actively used my personal Twitter account apart from checking DMs from an Animal Crossing group I'm in for about a month now. Just deleted all my tweets a few days ago except for one redirecting people to here.

I really doubt I'd go back to what I used it for before.

And, for news, I have a whole list I follow (that I made) of just for news/politics here...and currently don't boost into the timeline.

@paulg, who until about an hour ago was pretty publicly giving Musk the benefit of the doubt, decided to move here and then got banned there.

Musk is burning it all down, including friendships.
