No wonder such misinformation and literal falsehood exists and thrives out there in the marketplace relating to heat pumps.

I asked, anonymously, on a local Facebook group for recommendations for an aircon engineer (I specified F-Gas qualified).

Two out of the four recommendations are for Gas Safe Register plumbers, whose websites don't even mention aircon.

The general public is utterly fucking clueless when it comes to this stuff. It's embarrassing.

@bloor To add to the confusion, you don't need F-Gas or Gas Safe to install A2W monoblock heatpumps.

If you find any decent f-gas installers, let me know... Our house is warm air not wet rads, so we're probably going to go ham on a multisplit A2A...

@wishy Yeah I realised that when watching urban plumbers the other day.

The entire refrigeration cycle happens inside the exterior unit and fat flow and return pipes travel (heavily insulated) through the wall.

It's a great system really.

@bloor Certainly quicker to fit, which bodes well..

Worries me slightly that there are few if any professional requirements to deal with a system, other than MCS if you want grants.

Octopus have managed to cost engineer the whole thing down to "cheaper than a new boiler" now the grant is 7.5k

@wishy @bloor
Is that (Octopus) using the RED units? RED, the company they acquired based in NI.

@guardeddon @bloor Not sure TBH, they've produced "own brand" heatpumps (6kw units, so maybe 2 bed home, depending on age / insulation / what bovis homes want to call a bedroom these days)
