We are going to continue our trial here for at least another six months while we share our findings internally and seek more engagement from other BBC teams. We are also planning to start researching ways to publish more BBC content using ActivityPub.

Couldn't isn't the same as wouldn't. If he's using any of the various spurious lists of vast blocks it's likely he's blocking BBC's instance.

‘Following’ one of the BBC accounts as expected. Assuming bbc.social is a single instance. To best of my knowledge, qoto doesn’t apply onerous blocks. Some recent exchanges suggest qoto may be included on block lists shared through the fediverse. As a user, I have limited ability to diagnose. Perhaps a sign-up to a second instance may be a useful tactic.
There was so much drama from people upset about the BBC joining mastodon for their own domestic ish that I would be unsurprised about nonsense blocks. A technical issue is definitely possible, but a lot of people on here are a bit block list hysterical.
