Amazed to learn that there are about 200 underground cities in Cappadocia.

They exhibit a complex structure, with connections between "rooms". The largest cities could host up to 20,000 people.

Two futures:
1. Success in decarbonisation will include less car-dependent transport systems, not continuing traffic growth.
2. Failure to decarbonise will have devastating physical, economic and social effects, which will not support income-led traffic growth.
So either way, traffic growth will cease - by choice, pleasantly, if we do it right; or perforce, unpleasantly.
So either way, it does not make sense to design road capacity expansion on the assumption of endless traffic growth.

I think one draw of Mastodon for me (and maybe other GenXers) is the sense that the #fedivers represents the future we dreamed of as kids. One we feared was dead or dying.
