These euro-conservatives are daft. It's not combustion engines that are being phased out, but engines that run on petrol and diesel. Hydrogen and synthetic fuels will fail as they won't work for a whole raft of reasons.
@hesgen Opposition to synthetic fuels and hydrogen is a form of Ludditism. You are simply dismissing new technology simply out of ideology.
it's worth reminding people that BEVs pre-date ICEs. So it is the older and more primitive technology. The natural course of history would be BEVs being replaced by something similar to current ICE cars. Not being aware of this shows your lack of historical knowledge.
