Going by their media interviews, the internal Labour party contest to be the next Welsh premier is between the only gay in the village and the sole black man in Cardiff. The country's voters won't be impressed.

There's also nothing preventing people from taking photos at a nude beach for example. Does that make it ok? Of course not. But by tech bro logic it would on the people at the beach to put up walls and check everyone's bags for cameras.

Your neighbour is going through your mail while you're at work? Tough luck. Why didn't you buy a high-security mailbox?

Someone used your open-source code in a way that the license doesn't permit? Guess you'll have to pay a lawyer for an extended period of time to get that settled, sucker.

Someone is recording conversations you have with a partner while you're outdoors? Silly you! Should have stayed inside with the curtains closed for any semblance of privacy.

This "anything goes unless made impossible" logic falls apart at the slightest examination. It's obviously not how human societies work at all. Yet, these people expect that they get a free pass on whatever they think is a good idea.

At first glance, I don't... detest #Mozilla's announcements.

I get they're trying to diversify, so they threw a bunch of spaghetti at the wall. Some stuck, some didn't. Seems pretty normal when going through a phase like that, no?

VPNs? Email relays? Saturated markets, tough to compete, makes sense to scale back. 3D worlds? Companies much larger have tried and failed, makes sense to drop it.

Mastodon instance? How many people do you need to run one? Scaling back probably makes sense too. 🤷🏻‍♂️

"Natasha Abrahart: University contributed to student's death, court upholds"

The physics department in which I studied - Aberystwyth - fully and willingly exercised its duty of care toward students. This was down to the individuals among the teaching staff, not departmental structure and policies.

The department in which I did my subsequent postdoc work - Southampton - was appalling. I served on the teaching committee, the meetings of which were no more than personal bitch-fests, with no regard for students and their welfare.

RIP Natasha Abrahart. May her memory be a blessing.

"Why are kids doing the ‘Brexit tackle’? They’re having fun at adults’ expense – and mocking our toxic politics"

If the Brexit tackle - taking out the player without getting the ball, all while shouting ‘Brexit means Brexit’ - is a thing, there is hope for British humanity. All power to these kids' feet!

"Land cover changes across Greenland dominated by a doubling of vegetation in three decades"

An increase in biodiversity is a cause for celebration rather than lamentation. The greening of Greenland is an exception to this rule.

"Yes, Donald Trump’s Putin comments were unhinged – but he’s right to question Nato’s future"

One should continually question the future of everything. Failure to do so means that you've stopped thinking and planning.

Still, I challenge you to come up with even one thing of value in this offering from Simon Jenkins, aka Phil Space. To me, it is entirely vacuous: an op-ed dashed off under the duvet before breakfast on copy deadline day.

Sir Simon strikes again.
