Man made and natural fireworks in first picture. 2nd picture, lightning from 2 different storms. 3rd and 4th pictures are cloud to cloud lightning strikes. Pictures were taken in the past couple of years.
Hoping for more lightning activity tonight as a squall line is to cross Mississippi (USA) overnight.

On the #dailywalk through the prairie today I came across a hole at the base of a clump of big bluestem. Lots of small critters live under the snow to find shelter from the wind and cold. They spend the winter down there, rarely venturing out. I 'spect some of their breath formed these crystals overnight.

One morning on my way to work. Luckely, I had my camera with me.

This optical phenomon only appears under special conditions: It has to be cold, #sunrise (as this #photo) or #sunset. Light pillars develop as a result of ice crystals slowly falling through the air, reflecting the sun's rays off of them.

It's a magical view.

Evidently we're finally getting some rain and wind. Coastal flooding expected due to storm force winds and high tide coinciding, particularly Baranof Island (Sitka) and Kruzof Island (next door.) Not sure I believe it - forecasts have been off lately.

The Sea Bear (our fishing boat) is well tied at the harbor. Going to be a bumpy day.

In honor of the Sea Bear and Christmas: a sunrise from the deck back in 2018.

You certainly don't get #skies quite like this here in the UK! This is me under the spectacular #starry skies above the #ESO #LaSilla #Observatory in #Chile. Above and to the right you can see the Large and Small #MagellanicClouds. These are relatively small galaxies that orbit our #MilkyWay #Galaxy. Literally galaxy moons!

So that's pretty much it. It's relatively easy to befriend crows, and it's endlessly rewarding. I hope that a few of you are able to make crow friends of your own, and I look forward to hearing about your adventures with them.

He talked about electric cars. I don't know anything about cars, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.

Then he talked about rockets. I don't know anything about rockets, so when people said he was a genius I figured he must be a genius.

Now he talks about software. I happen to know a lot about software and Elon Musk is saying the stupidest shit anyone's ever said, so when people say he's a genius I figured I should stay the hell away from his cars and rockets.

Merry Christmas everyone and good luck figuring out where everything goes when unloading your relative’s dishwasher

@stux If you really want to learn to draw, buy the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain & do the exercises. It can’t make you creative but it can teach you to draw anything. Well anything that sticks around.😉 Merry Christmas #Cats for #Christmas

@lolennui Night Shift, particularly the BoogeyMan story. Still think about that one

@robin @lolennui start with Christine or The Shining. Two solid go tos. Pet Semetary is mid level and The Stand is pretty big. It is bigger yet. Collections of short stories that I loved are Skeleton Stories and Night Shift.

@owlislost @lolennui @Lowie I think my favorite things about Skeleton Crew is that Sai King talks about how he got the idea for each story. I've seen Neil Gaiman (another author I love) do something similar. I wish that was more common. #StephenKing #Bookstodon #reading

@lolennui It was one of his short stories for me. The Raft. I’m uneasy in lakes to this day, just in case there is a black blob. 😳

Every gen X person read a terrifying Stephen King book when they were 9
