the key idea comes from this paper https://arxiv.org/abs/1804.00640 with several other people.
It shows that a classical person can indeed get convinced that a quantum device has prepared a given quantum state. This without assumption about what the quantum device does [as long as it consistently passes a test and cannot break some cryptoscheme].
