Some data I gathered from 2014, this is the "heart" of the Heart Nebula ( IC 1805 or Sharpless 2-190) A total of 7 hours H-alpha data here with stars removed. I think I wil have another go at this over winter and gather a better set of [OIII] and [SII] so I can produce a full SHO image. #astrophotography #nebula #photography #monochrome #narrowband #astrodon #astro #space
I went to try photography the setting Milky Way just out of town last night and found the sky was lovely and clear, so I captured a few more galaxies! These are all single exposures, so they're very grainy.
Andromeda (with M110 near it) and Triangulum, Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud. 🤬 satellite trails.
📷 50mm f/1.8 "nifty fifty" on a Nikon D750 camera, iOptron SkyTracker.
Got up in the middle of the nigth to shoot the blood moon last week. Whew, so much has happened in the world it already feels like a month ago. Shot with a used lens that's the best $60 I've spent in a while.
Canon New F-1, Tamron SP 500mm f8 Tele Macro, Fujifilm Fujicolor 200.

@stargazerrob great collection Rob👍 I haven’t done any planetary #astrophotography for ages. Here is my #Saturn from 2011 taken with my #celestron #C8sct using a Phillips #ToucamIIpro webcam.
Back to the moon: Here we see parts of Oceanus Procellarum, Mare Nubium and Mare Humorum with Gassendi crater at the bottom. Focal length is 5600mm. Increased saturation to highlight the mineral composition of the surface. #astronomy #astrophotography, #space #moon
I created this helpful graphic to show how different telescopes flip the image around (and upside down)...

Here is my initial process of my SH2-124 data. 8 hours H-alpha, 7.5 hours [SII] and 10 hours [OII] mapped in the standard SHO palette. The star colours might be a bit off, I haven't checked them yet, but I'm quite pleased as how this came out considering how faint the [SII]/[OIII] channels were. Imaged with MN190 scope and Atik 383L+ mono cam from Lancashire UK #astrodon #astrophotography #nebula #sharpless #space #astronomy #astro #narrowband #photography
First post here on Mastodon/Astrodon. My first honest attempt at M33 - the Triangulum Galaxy. Multi-night/multi-location project, details in Astrobin or Telescopius. Thanks for looking, Clear Skies!

had been meaning to try the new samsung #astrophotography feature ~ 10 minute exposure under the #seattle sky ~ impressed with the results, but don't know why it seemed to produce a vignette'esque effect ~ will try again ~ #photography #space #astronomy #nerd #tech
I took this pic a while back at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. It shows the four Auxiliary Telescopes of the VLT Interferometer, gazing up to the sky. These telescopes work together, achieving a spatial resolution similar to that of a massive telescope as large as the separation between them.
Curious about how this works? Check out our interferometry explainer: https://www.eso.org/public/teles-instr/technology/interferometry/
My very first attempt at #astrophotography featuring Neptune (I think?).
I'm a tad disappointed with the result, but I learned a lot, and I may have been expecting too much for my location+camera.
Completely open for tips and critiques, what could I do to improve?
Last night's post midnight moon. Those pesky clouds in London - from no view to fully clear, briefly! Waning at 63% #astronomy #astrophotography
The Heart of the Soul Nebula
Preliminary study for colors, HaHOO starless combination, extreme crop of RedCat 51, ASI294MM Pro, ZWO 7nm Ha and OIII filters, CEM26, Bortle 4; about 14h total integration.
I'm exploring options how to frame interestingly--for a complete image I need a lot more light in order for me to be able to increase resolution with drizzling.
I recently wrote about one #NASA engineer's spare-time work to build a #spacesuit that would operate inside vehicles like #spacecraft. She's also looking to give back to the community, especially those in underprivileged areas.

1,300 light years away, and 6 light years across, the Iris Nebula is a reflection nebula, illuminated by a nearby star.
I personally love the dark dusty regions around the edges, where the starlight doesn't penetrate.

I fell in love with space as a teenager, after watching the movie Apollo 13 in 1996. I still want to be an astronaut!
