Who else is looking forward to seeing Orion in the winter sky again. Here is my image of#M42 which is the famous nebula in Orion's sword and also Sh2-279 The Running Man Nebula. I took this image with my RedCat51 using my ZWO 294MC Pro for RGB and Atik 383L+ for the H-Alpha. #astrodon #astrophotography #nebula #space #orion #astro #astronomy

Next up is normally The #Cambridge Star Atlas by Wil Tirion and for the real meaty detail Interstellarum by Stoyan and Schurig.

Both are indispensable #astronomy books for the observer. The CSA is the perfect amateur Atlas and I always keep it close by when out with a scope.

#Interstellarum is newer and is superb. Much more detailed, harder to use but grades objects by aperture. It has become my bible of the night sky and has some brilliant objects (quasars!)

Raytheon made these analog computers in 1969, likely as swag or tools for public outreach and the press. These days an aerospace company may publish mobile apps instead.

My first Python project was Spacestills, A NASA TV still frame viewer with a PySimpleGUI user interface. The project was featured in issues 473 and 496 of PyCoder's Weekly.

NASA later shut down the image feed the program relies on, so it no longer works.

This is 15h of narrowband exposure time on the "Cave Nebula". Still needs some polish with colors, contrast and stars.

Also trying different color palettes (mapping hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur to different channels) to see what colors look the best on this nebula.
