Well hello there Mastodon! I am new here, and don't understand anything about this. But I do understand a lot about #astrophotography !

Here is my most recent image, to start with a bang! This is the Rosette Nebula, shot with OSC, edited as Hubble Palette.

Let's see how this new medium will carry on. May the night be with us!

STACK: 50x300s

My Veil Nebula. This one was a 2 panel, about 20 hours per panel. 10 hours each panel of 5nm OIII and H-a Astrodon filters for a Bi-colour finish. Taken through my Sky-Watcher Esprit 100mm Apo.
Mosaics are not really my thing, matching the panels was not fun. Haven't done another since..

VdB 15 in constellation Camelopardalis is a blue reflection nebula.

Captured this over 4 nights Oct 29th - Nov 1st with a 6" refractor #telescope and colour camera (no filter). 15+ hours total integration time.

Got the first dish for the radio telescope array assembled. Just need to install the feed horn now. By itself it should be a reasonable amature radio telescope. But when joind up with 2 more dishes in an array, it should prove to be a cut above.

Crescent Nebula on OIII narrowband from earlier this year

Back in August, I did a couple of nights on Messier 33, the spiral galaxy in the constellation Triangulum. A week later, over 80 liters of rain (and hail) fell in just moments causing road closures, flooded cellars and lots more chaos. We spent weeks drying out 😳

This is 123x200 seconds of data over two or three nights. One of my favorite targets, I always come back to it, I think this might be my best image of it so far 😎

Messier 33 is a nearby galaxy at 2.7 million ly from Earth. It has a diameter of 60,000 ly, that's about 2/3 the size of the #milkyway. With an angular size of 70x41 minutes of sky, it is larger than the full moon but quite dim. This image was taken with the open source imaging software, #ninastronomy and post-processed in APP and PixInsight.

Quick word about my imaging rig (!)

I make no special claims about my #astronomy #sketching. It was the first thing I did in astronomy, when I drew the Pleiades through binoculars 37 years ago. Today I sketch all sorts of things and I find it very enjoyable and a great record of my observations.

I use an small art pad, pencil roll with various grades of pencil, blending stumps and the essential moldable rubber.

Right then, I will report later on.

JUPITER from a few hundred images, averaged. I tried the new technique of "stacking" which takes lots of images of Jupiter (that I caught with telescope/smartphone) and digitally averages them all together. The result is this Jupiter.
