Preliminary study for colors, HaHOO starless combination, extreme crop of RedCat 51, ASI294MM Pro, ZWO 7nm Ha and OIII filters, CEM26, Bortle 4; about 14h total integration.

I'm exploring options how to frame interestingly--for a complete image I need a lot more light in order for me to be able to increase resolution with drizzling.

1,300 light years away, and 6 light years across, the Iris Nebula is a reflection nebula, illuminated by a nearby star.

I personally love the dark dusty regions around the edges, where the starlight doesn't penetrate.

I own a relatively small telescope, with 300-m focal length, only. For many objects this is too short. On the other hand, it allows me to take some nice wide-angle #AstroPhotography shots.

For example, I can image the Cygnus Loop in one go. Here is a preliminary result, using a dual-narrowband filter (H-alpha, OIII), with only basic processing applied. The Moon was too bright to also take an RGB image, so the star colors are wrong. Need to invest more time...

Some widefield goodness across the area of #Cygnus and #Cepheus. This is with my 35mm Samyang at F2.8 using a H-Alpha filter and a total of 8 hours integration. I use this piggy back on my main scope so its kinda free which is nice 🙂 see how many of the famous nebula you can spot. #astrodon #astrophotography #nebula #narrowband #astronomy #space #sky

It is an area of star formation which is about 20 light years long! I used a Dual band narrowband filter to cut through the Birmingham light pollution and moonlight to capture this shot

IC405, the Flaming Star Nebula in the constellation Auriga. I shot the image almost two years ago from my garden in Altenberg / Austria. The cam was an uncooled Canon RA on a 200/800 newtonian with a dual narrowband filter. Total integration time was around four hours. #astrophotography #astronomy #space #galaxy #universe #milkyway

I always try and photograph Mercury at each of its apparitions.

I've been a bit obsessed with spotting the innermost planet ever since I got The Night Sky Ladybird book as a boy and there was an illustration of Venus and Mercury saying how hard it was to spot Mercury.

This photo is to date the only image I've had shown on the Sky at Night television programme. It was taken on 17th May 2007 and was shown on the programme in 2012. #astronomy #astrophotography #mercury #space #Astrodon
