I'm not very good at #astrophotography, but I want to be and I keep practicing when the conditions are right. Having said that, I like these attempts and remember how challenging it was to get these. What are your hints and tips for getting a good astro photo?

Messier 78 (aka NGC 2068)

M78 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Orion. M78 is part of the massive the Orion B molecular cloud complex. It is approx. 1,350 light-years from Earth.

This image integrates approx. 44 x 300 second subframes taken on 30 October 2022, since then it's been awful weather but tonight looks promising. Processing in APP and PixInsight.

Welcome to Sadr region nebula! Even though it's not one of the more iconic nebulae, it's one of my absolute favorites. There is so much happening here: the bright star Sadr (Gamma Cygni) in the bottom right, one of the main stars in the Cygnus constellation. A star cluster (NGC 6910) in the upper right, distinct halpha, OIII and SII regions and lots of dark clouds. The whole thing is about 4,900 light years away from earth. Total exposure about 16 hours. #space #astronomy #astrophotography

Orion, the Hyades and the Pleiades above the railway bridge at Chinley in Derbyshire, UK. Aldebaran is at the tip of the Hyades but it's not considered a real part of it, being much closer to Earth. Feel free to correct me on this, it's been a while since I was out freezing my taters off looking at the winter sky!

Some data I gathered from 2014, this is the "heart" of the Heart Nebula ( IC 1805 or Sharpless 2-190) A total of 7 hours H-alpha data here with stars removed. I think I wil have another go at this over winter and gather a better set of [OIII] and [SII] so I can produce a full SHO image. #astrophotography #nebula #photography #monochrome #narrowband #astrodon #astro #space

I went to try photography the setting Milky Way just out of town last night and found the sky was lovely and clear, so I captured a few more galaxies! These are all single exposures, so they're very grainy.

Andromeda (with M110 near it) and Triangulum, Large Magellanic Cloud and Small Magellanic Cloud. 🤬 satellite trails.

Got up in the middle of the nigth to shoot the blood moon last week. Whew, so much has happened in the world it already feels like a month ago. Shot with a used lens that's the best $60 I've spent in a while.

Back to the moon: Here we see parts of Oceanus Procellarum, Mare Nubium and Mare Humorum with Gassendi crater at the bottom. Focal length is 5600mm. Increased saturation to highlight the mineral composition of the surface. #astronomy #astrophotography, #space #moon

Here is my initial process of my SH2-124 data. 8 hours H-alpha, 7.5 hours [SII] and 10 hours [OII] mapped in the standard SHO palette. The star colours might be a bit off, I haven't checked them yet, but I'm quite pleased as how this came out considering how faint the [SII]/[OIII] channels were. I took this pic a while back at ESO's Paranal Observatory in Chile. It shows the four Auxiliary Telescopes of the VLT Interferometer, gazing up to the sky. These telescopes work together, achieving a spatial resolution similar to that of a massive telescope as large as the separation between them.
