@WhatYouMcCallit definitely. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t say mastodon was born yesterday from the twitter migration and I know even if all the exodus reverts and people get back to the bird site mastodon would disappear. But with the current traffic it has the potential to become as relevant (or even more) than the bird site taking advantage of what was designed different from twitter and the open nature of Mastodon. It can also be extremely popular for some weeks or months and then slowly lose users until it remains a niche social platform. That doesn’t mean it’ll fail, but it will be less relevant in many areas. And again, that’s not me saying that’ll be good or bad for the network and I’m sure some people won’t mind as Mastodon was what they already needed and they don’t look forward to a bloated network or massive presence. Then again that’s the advantage of a decentralized system… they can just separate or block massive instances.
Again, I’m excited to see where this is going.
