How to keep up with the literature?

As a first-year PhD student, I kept up with all major journals in my field, now my grasp of the field is shaped by whatever I see on social media and some random Gscholar searches/alerts.

I'd like to do better - any suggestions, systems or consolations?

Do you book in dedicated reading time apart from lab meetings?
