'PM Trudeau called to go beyond 'pretty words' on racism in Canada'
Wow. Pretty boy was too afraid to even utter trumpy's name! It is very rare for a politician to keep his mouth shut for nearly half a minute. Very awkward and painful to watch. Of course, his right-hand wouldn't speak either. I have no idea what Jagmeet's excuse was today?

@gemlog Sorry for the late response. However you might like to check out this link.

Frederick "Fred" Ivor Case was my late brother-in-law.
I have to say that I'm not aware myself of many people describing themselves as 'african-canadians' and that includes my other Canadian brothers-in-law.
Fred was educated in the UK, gained a PhD at the Sorbonne and eventually ended up as Head of French at UoT. He spent a considerable amount of time in francophone Africa and the Caribbean. Apart from French, he also spoke Spanish, Russian, Yiddish and a little Italian. In the end he became effectively an anthropologist and an educationalist. Indeed he spent his latter years advising the government of Kyrgyzstan about its educational policies, This involved excursions into remote mountain villages.
If you want to know more about the man (as there's no reason why you should) here's the relevant link:

@iankenway A friend of mine is such a polyglot.
Born in Katowice, he grew up with Silesian and also Polish. But it was soviet times, so Russian was mandatory. Next door to Germany, so... German too.
He escaped through Greece (spent some months there...), but got his wife out through Italy. Took him nearly a year to find her. Emigrated to Quebec in Canada where French is mandatory. Then they moved to English-speaking British Columbia on the West coast.
@iankenway That page seemed familiar right away, so I hit 'Home'. I watched a memorial to your wife there last year.
Yeah, so after I posted about 'african-canadians' not being a thing I remembered that I live in the cultural backwaters even of a small, unregarded country. Maybe the term is used in toronto or halifax?
