There is something surreal about owning a 206 year old book written by one of my own ancestors....

#Covid-19: isolated and alone, Britain has become the sick man of #Europe | #Politics | The Guardian

In the '70s, the #UK was called the sick man of Europe figuratively because of its decline in economic and social status until in joined the #EU. Now, sadly, it is meant in a literal sense.

RICHER, SHARPER, MORE IMMERSIVE

To mark the first week of the slow easement of lockdown in Greece and to draw attention to the plight of all art workers (painters, musicians, actors etc) both here and across the world, I am pleased to announce that all the videos on the PHIDOC website have now been digitally remastered to provide a sharper, richer, more immersive experience, especially when played on a PC/laptop connected to a good sound system.

Why this labour of love? “Because you’re worth it!” (LOL)

@freemo Yes, plus various sea food like mussels. Maybe some samphire.as well.

@freemo Not sure I can contribute much here. But in 1977 I bought a Sinclair Enterprise Programmable. Eight years earlier, it was a non-pocketable Anita Mk 12 with CRTs!

@freemo I went through a squid ink pasta phase about thirteen years ago. Time to revisit the passion I think!

*sighs loudly*

Ok, back to VMWare, because VirtualBox is unusably slow and QEMU just too cumbersome for the average user 😒

Guys, I am tired of people posting screenshots, graphs, "news" and "information" without a reference to a source. All that is useless unless it's verifiable with a quick search. The fediverse isn't resistant against false information just because it's the fediverse. Use common sense, ask for a source and debunk fake news.

I will let out a bit of a secret.

I have been running a full IBM System/370 Mainframe on a $5 Raspberry Pi Zero for ~5 years.

About 7 times faster System/370.

Millions of lines of COBOL JCLs running flawless on a battery.

Tested an entire bank’s mainframe COBOL on it.
