#introduction
This should be my last introduction toot! I mentioned my professional focus (#neuroimaging #neuroscience signal analysis) in my last toot. Now, for my other non-research engagements...
I am a #maker who uses tools like #programming #arduino #msp430 #raspberrypi #electronics and #3dprinting to prototype fun projects. I have my own fleet of 3d printers and support equipment.
As a signal processing engineer, I'm also very interested in #sdr (software-defined radio). I'm working on two pet projects right now employing SDR and my maker tools for backyard #radio #astronomy and satellite signal reception. While not entirely novel end-goals, the work is very engaging and rewarding! I hope to package the results for science outreach in #steam in the near future.
Everyone should expect neuroimaging research toots from me as well as updates on my projects and resources for #STEM and #STEAM engagement in the classroom. I hope to contribute to #edutoot by sharing my demos, resources, and projects for bringing innovative thinking, science, and engineering into the classroom.
I love #biking and outdoor activities. I'm a novice in #photograpy (microscope as well as DSLR) and am looking for hints and suggestions for my entry into #astrophotography . Any advice? Let me know! I have a strong love of #fish and #aquariums, so expect my gushing about fish on occasion. I also have a pet parakeet, so expect some bird antics along the way! It can't all be work and seriousness, after all!
At last! Something the Tories truly are world leading at — causing recessions.
UK heads for long recession as economy shrinks by 0.2%
I will miss the #borscht that our guests from #Ukraine️ made us. Very happy that they are quickly settling into their new home though #HomesForUkraine 🇺🇦
Three out of the eight @nicw Commissioners are now on toot.wales! Give 'em a follow at @davidoclubb @ElunedParrott and @SteveBrooks 👍
we're here to make change happen.
there are more of us.
we just need to show up.
show up and vote for the most likely candidates to beat the Tories around the country.

@sgul @freemo Wikipedia says 7-day "weeks" go back to Babylonia, including one day a week for making offering to the gods and avoiding prohibited activities.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylonian_calendar
Of course, other systems since have used different approaches including the French Revolution attempting to create a decimal calendar of 10-weeks.
Most calendar systems are lunisolar with the sun's position determining year length and the moon's phase determining month length. Reckoning weeks was more or less optional and of little interest.
And since prehistory is, by definition, before anything was recorded we can only speculate from limited findings how, or even if, time was recorded. It seems likely that some tribal leader made scratches on something to tally lunar months and maybe solar years.
@freemo @sgul Ah! Let me attempt to answer your actual question a bit more directly.
The Jewish people adopted the Babylonian calendar systems during the Babylonian Exile so for Western purposes we can mark the observance of the Sabbath and a 7-day cycle beginning sometime around 600 BCE. Of course every lunisolar calendar requires intercalary "leap" days to reconcile the lunar and solar cycles so "counting by Sundays" isn't easy over very long timeframes.
The last major revision to the Western calendar was, as others have noted, the switch from Julian to Gregorian, a process that took a couple centuries.
#Introduction 🙋♀️
#SocialMedia is my day job.
Ex-government, Office for National Statistics and HarperCollins.
I’m a trustee for the Women’s Equality Network #Wales and YMCA #PortTalbot – the New Plaza is coming soon 💪
I love: #Politics, sport (all about #Tennis, #AmericanFootball and #Football – come on Cymru!), and all things equalities related.
Ok, it's clear I need a way better #introduction post.
Hi, I'm Isaac. #wisconsin born and raised and still living in this wonderful state (just now on the opposite side of it). As a lover of all seasons, this is definitely home.
I grew up on a dairy farm and migrated away due to the draw of computers and getting a degree. I work as a lead systems and software engineer; which lets me enjoy the hobby of collecting hobbies. I am most definitely found being busy. I spend copious amounts of time #cycling, mostly riding and racing #MTB but also enjoying time on the road bike and commuting by bike to work when possible. I also coach middle/high schoool MTB racing and have spent several years on the board of our local MTB advocacy group.
I enjoy the outdoors and spend a lot of time #camping in our #nationalparks and other spaces; towing a little Aliner classic camper around the country and enjoying it all with my wife and son. I enjoy hunting (no, I'm not a gun nut), fishing and hiking. I spend too much on #photography equipment and not having enough time to use it; and can't wait until retirement so I can shoot more. #birds are one of my favorite subjects. If we're not enjoying our wild spaces, we're donating to orgs to help preserve them.
I'm always tinkering and #making things; my upbringing (poor farm kid) allowed me to learn to be rather handy and have the ability to make all kinds of stuff. Some days I'd much rather be running my welder than a computer.
In the late winter and early spring you can find me making #maplesyrup from ~100 taps on equipment I've built. My dad taught me the art and science of it and now my son gets to learn and we have a lot of fun.
And, I enjoy #rocketry. Low, mid and now high power - but I'm only L1 high power certified so far. It allows me to make stuff. I enjoy scratch building immensely. It's also yet another reason to be #outside and spend some fun time with my son.
That's me in a very condensed version. Glad to be here.
@ilennaj Interesting info. Thanks!
Let me introduce myself! My name is Ilenna Jones, I am a computational neuroscientist with keen interest on how dendrites contribute to a singular neuron's ability to compute functions and learn tasks. I build biophysical models of neurons in #pytorch and use #deeplearning principles to investigate how #neuron models can learn and compute given their biologically realistic constraints.
I'm looking for postdocs right now! Feel free to connect if you're looking for someone like me!
I'm very interested in helping other students find resources and guidance as they consider science and #neuroscience in general. Feel free to connect if you're looking for advice/perspectives!

#introduction time I suppose. Name is Carl, but I go by scout basically everywhere. I am from Arkansas. I game a lot, do IT for a living, and work on cars and electronics projects for fun. My family enjoys camping and we are dog people. Here to try something new. Not enjoying social media elsewhere.
By way of #introduction, I am professor of #DigitalHumanities at the University of #Lausanne (#UNIL), #Switzerland.
I studied #ComputationalLinguistics and did a PhD in #ComputerScience on #ELearning. But these days my main research interest is #theory, #methodology and #epistemology of digital humanities.

Hi, an #introduction, my name is Mark, I am a #computer #science #teacher with a background in #geoscience. I am interested in #computing #education and #seismology. I program in #python & #vba. I run two #raspberryshake seismometers and tinker with #raspberrypi #pico & #arduino microcontroller boards.
@freemo - Greetings! I’m very glad to have stumbled on this instance as there were a lot of choices. You have a great community here and it’s technology/science orientation will be an awesome home for me! Thank you for your support! I’m looking forward to interacting with everyone. Yes, let’s chat sometime! I see your interests align with mine, particularly in astrophotography. I’m excited to learn about your setups and experiences! See you around the ‘verse!
