Pinned post

Ok, it's clear I need a way better post.

Hi, I'm Isaac. born and raised and still living in this wonderful state (just now on the opposite side of it). As a lover of all seasons, this is definitely home.

I grew up on a dairy farm and migrated away due to the draw of computers and getting a degree. I work as a lead systems and software engineer; which lets me enjoy the hobby of collecting hobbies. I am most definitely found being busy. I spend copious amounts of time , mostly riding and racing but also enjoying time on the road bike and commuting by bike to work when possible. I also coach middle/high schoool MTB racing and have spent several years on the board of our local MTB advocacy group.

I enjoy the outdoors and spend a lot of time in our and other spaces; towing a little Aliner classic camper around the country and enjoying it all with my wife and son. I enjoy hunting (no, I'm not a gun nut), fishing and hiking. I spend too much on equipment and not having enough time to use it; and can't wait until retirement so I can shoot more. are one of my favorite subjects. If we're not enjoying our wild spaces, we're donating to orgs to help preserve them.

I'm always tinkering and things; my upbringing (poor farm kid) allowed me to learn to be rather handy and have the ability to make all kinds of stuff. Some days I'd much rather be running my welder than a computer.

In the late winter and early spring you can find me making from ~100 taps on equipment I've built. My dad taught me the art and science of it and now my son gets to learn and we have a lot of fun.

And, I enjoy . Low, mid and now high power - but I'm only L1 high power certified so far. It allows me to make stuff. I enjoy scratch building immensely. It's also yet another reason to be and spend some fun time with my son.

That's me in a very condensed version. Glad to be here.

Relatively early start, but the weather has been perfect. First boil of the season here.

Looks like it's tornado season in Wisconsin in :checks calender: the middle of February #wiwx

I think we're getting closer to tapping the maples here in SE Wisconsin. Did not chase the late Jan to early Feb warmth (with few good freezes) and hope it pays off.

You ever write a long post and after you've finished you delete it because you suddenly realize that you just don't give a fuck as much as you thought you did?

Anyone remember the rocket in Super Mario Bros 2?

Decided to design and print it. 3" diameter and barely fits a 24x95mm motor. Rear-eject.

How can you get "more" winter when you haven't had winter yet?

Last summer this 5" diameter Doorknob rocket suffered an unfortunate lawn dart incident from a long ways up on an I245G flight. Took me a while, but it's back in flying shape once again.

Here's a sample of 'merica coral. Resembles brain coral, but is really just an ass.

This may be the best portrait I've ever taken, and it's an iguana. Sun was still low and he was soaking it up.

Shot at the sanctuary in San Pedro, Belize. We spent the last week of 2023 in that wonderful country. Will sprinkle photos here and there.

Today was the closest day I've done next to nothing in a long time. Basically just ate, and read To Kill A Mockingbird. I need to do more of this.

Rocket flying motor usage summary for 2023. Pretty good year. Minimal flight damage on the birds, except for the huge lawndart with a 5" diameter rocket on an I motor....which is nearly rebuilt.

About 95% of my direct message work slack conversations go like this.

Person: Hello <misspelled first name and sometimes just misspelled last name despite both being right there>

Person: Regarding <sequence of letters and numbers because I must memorize every item in Service Now>

Me: <waits for a while because I’m working on something in my backlog instead of fixing their problems>

Me: ok….

Person: <radio silence for a long duration, minutes, hours, days…>

Person: <question with obvious answer or something that can be addressed with their supposed expertise that landed them their job>

Me: <explaining how computers work and that CPU is not memory and memory is not disk and disk is not memory or CPU and that compute resources actually do cost money>

Me: <googles “remote cabins”>

Woken up at 4am by a water alarm in the basement. Heating element on the water heater decided to blow itself up inside and let water through the connection. Didn't even trip the breaker!

We've all been there: it's puzzle time, but once you dump out the pieces and start laying them flat, you realize you don't have enough space on your table. Join me as we use physics to find out ✨HOW BIG A TABLE YOU NEED FOR YOUR JIGSAW PUZZLE ✨
