If you agree with public services for people not profit, you’re not alone - and you can help spread the word about how popular public ownership is:

A farmer in #Thetford (on the Norfolk/Suffolk border area) is giving away a large quantity of #onions because some were affected by the heatwave and they cannot be stored with the others due to risk of spreading a disease (but there are many good onions which are perfectly safe for humans to eat). You can just travel there with a bag (where I live, the distance and the cost of petrol makes this less appealing, but it might be of interest to others in the area) 🧅

@iankenway Yes, Yes, No, I have come to the same conclusion. I've put together a presentation on the topic and I'm trying to get some traction on the old internet, but it is demoralisingly difficult. I encourage you to give it a look: docs.google.com/presentation/d

GPS ankle tags monitor a person’s precise location 24/7, generating a huge amount of sensitive and granular “trail data”, stored for years.

This provides deep insight into and reveals intimate details of an individual’s life.

Electronic monitoring via GPS tags is a seismic change in the surveillance of migrants in the UK, causing tagged individuals serious feelings of anxiety, social exclusion, and sometimes causing re-traumatisation.

The UK Home Office uses these tags to monitor migrants released from immigration detention. Despite the indiscriminate nature of this surveillance, there isn’t provision for judicial or independent oversight at the point where electronic monitoring is imposed.

#GrantShapps’ #bike licence plates proposal ‘a strange and pointless idea’ | Grant Shapps | The Guardian

#introduction

Hi everyone! My name is Evan, I'm a product design student from Ireland. I joined the fediverse last year to explore more ways of communicating with people online, and I'm glad to have found Lurk!
My main interests include:
∙ Design, be it physical, graphical or software.
∙ Photography, especially exploring interesting ways of taking photos.
∙ Learning. I love learning about technology, sustainability and languages.
I also love origami, bees and exploring the world around me. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone on here!

I've just upgraded to Linux Mint 21 (Vanessa) successfully. The only addition work after the upgrade was the need to reinstall Signal Messenger Desktop as well as well as Oracle VM VirtualBox Extensions. No sweat as they say!
