Hi all! 👋 I come from Reddit, so you can probably understand why I'm hesitant to post too many personal details. I'm hoping to loosen up here over time, but you can just call me by my username, or should it ever come up, then you can call me Tee.
This is probably my first time letting the internet know that I'm a #bisexual #black #African woman.
I tend to cope with frustration by being facetious, and lately, the world has been VERY frustrating. I'm also an adult who is newly diagnosed with #ADHD, so my thoughts tend to go to interesting places, and I have an interest in a variety of topics.
Work in Healthcare
I am currently really into #Skincare and thus, I now have a small collection of hats 😀
Looking forward to participating more!

@InAFeverDream Welcome to Mastodon!
Incidentally, I know kbin and lemmy are other Fediverse software (i.e. also use the ActivityPub protocol so can communicate with things like Mastodon) that offer an experience more similar to Reddit. I haven't tried them personally, so I'm not recommending, just mentioning they exist in case it's helpful.
@InAFeverDream Yeah, that's probably wise.
@InAFeverDream Sadly not a problem unique to redditors. There's been a fair amount of that with people coming from Twitter and elsewhere (especially when there are big waves). Contrarily, some corners of Mastodon/the Fediverse have pretty unusual customs versus most of the rest of the Internet, and Fedi folks should realize that people violating those don't necessarily know that they are doing so. Occasionally these events do seem to spark some rethinking of those customs, which can also be a good thing.
You are very right. So far, most instances in the fediverse seem to prioritize recognizing that there is another human on the other end. There are definitely many people migrating who already recognize this, and there are some that can learn and adjust. I worry that some may not be able to be rehabbed.
I may be a bit jaded, though. This is my first time in an unincorporated part of the internet.
@InAFeverDream I hope it treats you well! I've been enjoying it so far, though I was hoping it might grow enough to cause some of the walled gardens to collapse and now I'm skeptical that will happen.
Everything rises and falls. Most of these incorporated internet spaces tend to disappear, but they are just usually replaced by something else that tries to fill that void, then that fails, and so on.
I never even knew that the fediverse existed, I just kept jumping to each new social platform (AOL, MySpace, Xanga, MSN, Digg, Facebook, StumbleUpon, etc). I get a little joy knowing that these wanna-be mega corporations can not figure out how to make money from us. I wish I had learned about it years ago, though.
@InAFeverDream Yeah, although some of those things predate the Fediverse (and many predate Mastodon). If you haven't already seen it, I liked this article by @catvalente that I thought described this well and in a way that moved me, as a member of "the Oregon Trail generation."

You are a gem. Cat is a gem. Cat succinctly describes how I feel; rage and unending defiance. Thank you for sharing this article with me, I am about to obsessively go through as much of Cat's writing as I can find.
Not obsessively, Cat... I'm hyperfocused, not a stalker.
@InAFeverDream @internic there is no author who does not smile when someone says they’re going to read all their stuff :)
@internic
There's a certain type of redditor that forgets that these communities have been established long before they arrived and have their own rules and etiquette.
It's like kicking your neighbor's door down and then tracking mud all over their freshly steamed, white carpet. Then get mad when they are sent a cleaning bill, because they track dirty shoes in their own house so that applies everywhere else they go.
