Are there any good offline-only voice to text tools? As far as I can tell, every major OS has voice to text functionality if you're talking into a microphone, but zero of them will let you click a sound-producing file and get the same result, unless I've missed something.

The last time I had to do this, I had to use a physical cable to patch a headphone jack out to a microphone in, and it was embarrassing. Is that still the best option?

This can apparently be done in software on MacOS if you're willing to reboot into recovery mode and turn off a bunch of OS-level security features, which... honestly, c'mon. No.

@mhoye I was going to say that feeding audio out into audio in on the software side shouldn't be hard in Linux, and I believe I've seen it done in Windows (but I don't recall exactly how). Still, that's all sort of a kludge.
