It's interesting the way much of TV and film has worked to pretend the pandemic never happened. I rarely see people wearing masks in TV in a contemporary setting and characters rarely refer to it. (Obviously there are some exceptions.)
It goes some way towards helping me understand another mystery: why so much fiction written after 1918 makes very little reference to the Spanish Flu despite it surely looming large in the lives of so many people.
#Threads stopped working for me a few days ago. Now, on both iOS and Android apps, all I ever get is a “Sorry, something went wrong” error. Reinstalling doesn’t fix it. It’s a shame, because the app was doing so well. That may not be a popular opinion on Mastodon, but I’m a fan of anything that pries people away from Twitter.
@johncarlosbaez @mapto Right, the primary issues with account migration on Mastodon are a) previous posts do not migrate to the new account and b) I've read that users are actually prompted whether they want to follow the account at the new server, which implies the likelihood of considerable attrition.
Neither of these is a big deal for someone like me, who is just a using this for casual enjoyment, but they are a bigger deal for people who are using social media for professional purposes.
Four of the tweets denied the #Holocaust in explicit terms, one said “blacks should be gassed and sent with space x to Mars”, while a sixth compared Covid vaccination programmes to mass extermination in Nazi death camps. All were reported in January but Twitter ruled that three of the tweets did not violate its guidelines and failed to respond to the other reports, the legal action claims.

How it started. (March 7, 2023):
“Elon Musk says Twitter may reach positive cash flow by second quarter”
How its going (July 15, 2023):
“Elon Musk says Twitter's cash flow still negative as ad revenue drops 50 per cent”
No more comments. 😏
@dangoodin maybe the next stage of software engineering maturity will be a public, mandatory registration of security issues and root cause analysis, like the Chemical Safety Board, with a purpose to describe and mitigate classes of human frailty that cause these issues in the first place

@mastodonmigration if meta didn’t look like
It wanted to federate, there would be an outcry to federate. But it explored federation and the fediverse, protested strongly against it, so now they can do what they want while avoiding the scrutiny from the fediverse. They played it brilliantly. As the 800 lbs gorilla they’re away of how everyone would react to them.
12 years ago, I found a page with Lemmings written in DHTML. It still exists.
Oh, and the Dutch Dark Rock band hosting it's pretty good too.

I’m hiring.
My team, which is overseeing the modernization of IRS IT with $10 billion+ from the Inflation Reduction Act, needs a coordinator. Someone early career who is beginning to see how much room for improvement there is with Federal IT, and is equipped for a high-profile mission.
Please boost.
@Wolven I think @ZachWeinersmith is horning in on your territory. ![]()
Theoretical physicist by training (PhD in quantum open systems/quantum information), University lecturer for a bit, and currently paying the bills as an engineer working in optical communication (implementation) and quantum communication (concepts), though still pursuing a little science on the side. I'm interested in physics and math, of course, but I enjoy learning about really any area of science, philosophy, and many other academic areas as well. My biggest other interest is hiking and generally being out in nature.
