We’ve discussed various constructed languages here before, but I don’t think we’ve touched on Toki Pona. It was developed in 2001 but I’ve not heard of it before.
TP is not seriously intended to be used as an auxiliary language, and appears instead to be a test of concept. It has 120 words, and is an extreme isolating language. Most of the words can act as various parts of speech and this seems to lend itself to hardcore ambiguity.
The vocabulary has been drawn from various European and Asian languages. It is notionally suited to hunter-gatherers, supposedly: there’s no word for iron or wheel, no numbers over two. Perversely, then, it has words for shop and money.
Bit of fun, I suppose.
