My recollection of the death of Windows phone was that Nokia launched some great hardware and a couple months later after it shipped Sinofksi showed the new windows phone OS with great features, and the cherry on top was was “none of this will work on the new Nokia”
This was just another breach of trust when it came to Windows Phone, and one they couldn’t recover from.
@Migueldeicaza iirc the hardware you mentioned was the Lumia 7x series. The upcoming Lumia 8x series had the new OS in it which wasn't compatible with the previous gens.

It's disheartening that a company who made backwards compatibility a cornerstone of its success blew it at mobile market because lacking of it. Having few apps is not excuse to kill them all. People invested a lot developing and buying them. Trust is built on those details.
