A very common set of arguments.

1984: We should have built that nuclear power plant 20 years ago. It'll take too long now
2004: We should have built that nuclear power plant 20 years ago. It'll take too long now
2024: We should have built that nuclear power plant 20 years ago. It'll take too long now
2044...

Meanwhile:
1964: We'll have fusion in 20 years!
1984: We'll have fusion in 20 years!
2004: We'll have fusion in 20 years!
2024: We'll have fusion in 20 years!

To be fair, until this century, fusion was know to be the alternative energy that always was 50 years in the future. So if they say it is 20 years now, maybe in 40 years...

Nuclear is not the dirtiest, but it is dirty anyway. Solar, hydro, wind & friends are clean, cheap and real. Fusion is scifi as of now.

By the way, I find hard to believe that fusion is going to be as clean as the technooptimistics think. New tech always find a way to be dirtier than expected. We'll see...
