@freeschool Thanks, I think the plastic is more sensitive than I'm used to with the Commodore 64 and maybe I should soak the whole case in liquid instead of smearing it with a brush

Ah yeah right less thick / more permeable perhaps.
And do remember that cleaning increases chances of these things or even over doing it easy (you probably know but I'm being protective of what can break in 5mins cleaning and otherwise would last lifetimes as 'dirty' or off white!)... this including breakage or 'wear and tear' while cleaning (atoms getting thinner),,.
but looks like you got away clean hehe :)
