@plgDavid I'm sure you know about the DECtalk source dumps and people doing interesting stuff with it, but if you don't... Might be fun for a chipspeech thingy, even though you've already got DKlatt.

@coastal8049 Ahhh I see, the higher pitch sound when you move the band off the tiny bump on the frequency visualization is static noise, and the lower pitch almost waterfall like sound is the signal.
#FediTips If you need general help on here, whether it's asking about how something works, or where a specific feature is, or general technical help using mastodon and understanding the Fediverse, use the #FediHelp tag. People keep an eye on it to catch users asking for help so that they can respond. <3
@dimi My sympathies and good luck. I've had my share of Linux desktop adventures but have not been back.
For alternatives, I have heard good words about Pop!_OS.
Also surprised to see MX Linux still on top of the DIstrowatch page hit ranking.
TIP OF THE DAY
If your instance server is having a hard time right now, don't freak out.
You do not need to change servers. Mastodon is getting a huge influx of new users and they are all working tirelessly to add capacity. If you are otherwise happy with your instance, trust that they will get things working smoothly. Give them some time to sort things out.
We're all in this together. It's our social network. Be patient. What we are building is amazing.
@coastal8049 That is so very cool! Is it the data signal when you move it to the left?
Btw, to fix your typo, the satellite is named QUEQIAO, and it means Bridge (Qiao) of Magpie (Que), a bridge of love formed by magpies in a Chinese legend.
@mei23 お初にお目にかかります。今週はアメリカに選挙があり、お騒がせして申し訳ありませんでした。GOPはアメリカの政党の一つなのです。
Friends eagerly waiting US #election results-
Be very skeptical of quick takes & early speculation. A good deal of 24/7 media “coverage” is currently being filmed & written for clicks and ratings, but there’s little substantive new information. We likely won’t get a sense of how it all played out for a few days.
I feel, as part of my initiation into this space, I must talk about my love of #Medieval elephants.
Yes, you heard me. You see, though bestiaries were very common in Western Europe, elephants were not.
So things like this happen.
"SO... lion body... got it, cloven hooves, okay, big ears and dead bird eyes... long snake face... PERFECTION."
For techies who want to read the ActivityPub specs
Was re-reading and this paragraph made me laugh.
> Is this technically 100% correct? No. But if you were the kind of person who cared about the difference between JSON-LD and JSON, you'd probably be writing your own spec right now instead of reading this article.
I'm really not worried about Mastodon scaling issues at all.
When I left Twitter in 2008, we had roughly twice as many users as the current combined Mastodon network, all running on one MySQL server that had the same specs as a high-end 2013 MacBook Pro, plus roughly 10 web servers and 5 queue servers.
To be fair, growth wasn't as rapid, and we had local-infra advantages over federated systems, but these problems are solvable and I have no doubt will be fixed soon.
