Thanks to LoGo for the disk!
💡 Idea: we need a privilege similar to attorney-client privilege, but between techies and people they support.
Journalists, refugees, people at-risk and from marginalized groups, and we all, really, need to *know* that tech people supporting them cannot be legally forced to disclose the (often very personal or sensitive) data they gain access to while providing tech support.
Data that is shared with them in confidence, and which is often necessary to render tech help at all.
obsessed with this article by the Android team. just looking at the graphs it's like "rust go up, exploits go down" https://security.googleblog.com/2022/12/memory-safe-languages-in-android-13.html
also holy shit Android has a lot of rust code now
@isa it's not surprising but getting these numbers from Google (see above context) with that level of usage in that low-level of a system (lower than firefox!) is a very big empirical validation of Rust's approach.
for folks who don't know, google specifically has like, the Most Advanced C++ Bug Catching/Mitigation Tools, to the point that they *took over the development of clang*
just using rust instead, even with 'unsafe' parts, completely blew all of that out of the water! holy shit!
My donation this week for @freemo are these pics of Valiente (Val) living her best life. Notice her green binky (Nerf disc) that she carries around and then naps with. She's ridiculous but makes for happy Friday viewing as one of the #CatsOfMastodon
Here's hoping your weekend is fabulous - thanks for all you do!
Starlink only needed FCC approval to put 1000s of satellites in low earth orbit.
Not NASA, EPA, FAA, or international agencies despite posing a threat to low orbit spacecraft and satellites (collision), to ground based astronomy, & to the ozone layer.
Thanks so much to everyone who responded to my earlier request for help on getting flatpak working on my Pop!_OS laptop.
Just posted a more-detailed description of the problem, as well as what troubleshooting I've already done (a few folks had asked for more info) on Stack Exchange. Thank you!
This is quite an opening letter from @AkivaMCohen to Elon telling him to pay up the severance he owes employees. https://twitter.com/AkivaMCohen/status/1598487532764798983
Pavlo Holub spent months digging through the wreckage of a collapsed building in Izyum, which was under 🇷🇺 occupation until September.
One of the last bodies he found was that of Olena, his close friend from school. Along with her body, he found their class graduation album. https://twitter.com/RFERL/status/1598340511781163008/video/1
I don't know the origin of this image, but it is clearly 𝘶𝘯 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘍𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘤̧𝘢𝘪𝘴. Not because the cat is drinking wine but because of the insouciance with which the cat is drinking the wine. (you should expand the image if you don't have "crop images to 16x9" turned off in your preferences. For the full jaded glory of French Cat.)
