my year 9 computer science teacher introduced me to Processing and to The Coding Train. Honestly I had so much fun working in this language.

If you have a casual interest in computer graphics and art, processing is such a fun language - it's pretty accessible too

The coding train is just an awesome YouTube channel, he does loads of programming challenges and explains lots of computer science concepts in a really accessible way.

A random fact that I learned today that I'd never known before: south Florida is the only place in the world that crocodiles (tropical) and alligators (temperate) overlap. I had no idea.

Also, manatees are freaking amazing.

Deep thought for the day.

My job is reverse engineering. Figuring out how tech works. I do this by observing and watching the patterns for how it operates.

I also use my knowledge of how people build things. There's patterns in the tools, processes, and capabilities they build into technology to support building and testing.

Really in the end my job is pattern recognition. And it all comes back to people. The patterns I see in tech are just reflections of the patterns I see in people.

To understand how tech works you first have to understand how people work.

It involves writing code for obsolete gaming hardware

The bit about a lawyer being stopped from entering a music hall in the US because its facial recognition system picked up that she's part of a law company that's suing them is even crazier than I thought.

The law company isn't suing the music hall - it's suing a restaurant, in another state, which is owned by the hall's parent company MSG Entertainment. MSG gone ahead and harvested photos of all the lawyers in the firm and fed it to an image recognition system to ban them from every MSG Entertainment owned location.

People always tell me that if you've got nothing to hide then you've got nothing to fear. She's got nothing to hide and they still went after her.

If this doesn't start making people worried about facial recognition then there's serious trouble coming.
